I hope everyone will be able to help me with their heartfelt opinions. My FH is Jewish and I am not. He is not very observant but I know it is a part of who he is. I adore his parents. We have discussed our interfaith ceremony and there are some traditions of the Jewish ceremony that are just so beautiful that I must incorporate them such as the sharing of the wine, the seven wedding prayers and the breaking of the glass. But a big tradition that his parents mentioned to me was that the groom is walked down the aisle by both his parents and the bride is also walked down the aisle by both her parents and all the parents stand under a canopy with the bride and groom during the ceremony. I am not sure how I feel about this. I guess I am feeling a little selfish. I always envisioned just my Dad walking me down the aisle alone. I know it would mean so much to them if they walked their son down the aisle. They are the dearest people. I would appreciate your thoughts.

Why can't they walk him down but only your dad walk you down? I think planning a wedding is all about compromise - they get what they want in walking him down and you get what you want in just having your dad walk you down.

I agree with compromise, but this is a part of the Jewish ceremony I'd love to include in my own wedding. I think it's so sweet.

what if they walk him down and then your dad walks down, gives you away and then grabs your mothers hand and walks her to your side of the canopy?

Im not Jewish but FH's parents are walking him down the aisle and both my parents are walking me down. I think its a great jewish tradition! But if you dont like it, you should talk to them.

Re: Serious interfaith ceremony opinions wanted
I'm jewish and FH isn't
I am walking down with both parents and he is having his mother (dad passed) walk him down the aisle.
I don't like it when the groom is standing out there while people are waiting for the ceremony to begin. I think they should enter when the ceremony starts and his mom is very Italian but always dreamed of walking him down the aisle.
There is nothing to be selfish about. Guests will only stand when YOU walk down the aisle and you get that moment all to your self.
what I don't understand is why in a non-jewish ceremony, only your dad gets to walk you down the aisle and mom has to stand and watch. She raised you as well and should have the prestige of walking with you and giving you away. I'm sure most girls are closer to mom than dad anyway. JMO

And this is an interfaith ceremony, so why does it have to lean more one way than the other? If you want just your dad to walk you down the aisle, then do it.

I agree, if you only want your Dad to walk you down then thats what you should have. Yes both parents raised you but its your tradition that you want only him walking you down, you dont have to suck it up! Its your wedding, do what you want. If they dont like it then its to bad. Im not saying you have to be rude about it, but the compromising doesnt always have to come from you, it can come from them to! this is just my opinion!

Re: Serious interfaith ceremony opinions wanted
I agree coming from an interfaith relationship. No one should have to give up their faith you are compromising and keeping your own traditions. If he wants both his parents to walk him down the aisle then that is good for him and you can have just your dad walk you down the aisle.
It would be very disrespectful to ask you to do it according to their faith, unless of course, you wanted to.

Re: Serious interfaith ceremony opinions wanted
I'm also in an interfaith relationship. My FH is Jewish and I'm Catholic. We are doing what we feel comfortable with. He is having both of his parents walk him down the aisle and I'm just having my dad. I dont see a problem with this.

Re: Serious interfaith ceremony opinions wanted
I am jewish, FH is not. I am walking dfown with both parents, he will be down there already. My parents are not standing under the chuppah with us, in fact no one is. Our bridal party is standing outside the chuppah. We are doing some non jewish things and some jewish things with the ceremony. I told him i want him to break the glass, and i want a chuppah, and as long as a rabbi is there (priest can be as well if hed like) then that is all i need for my ceremony. He loves it.
