Serious Sister Drama!

Original post by beachprincess

I am soooo angry right now!!!!!!!!!! I asked my one and only sister to be my MOH and boy am I regretting that decision!

She is soooo jealous of the fact that I am getting married and is being really mean and nasty to me.

A little background on her: She got married very young to a guy that beat her, eventually divorced him, dated a few more wierdos after that, and now has a somewhat decent boyfriend that she has been dating for three years. She decided to move in with him on the grounds that he would propose soon after. Well, no ring yet and she is fuming! Also, the first time she got married to the guy nobody in our family liked (because he beat her), she eloped and now she regrets not having a big fancy wedding. So she is taking out all her frustration on me.

When I first got engaged I asked her to be my MOH. That was a little over a year ago. (My wedding is in 7 months now.) She agreed but said she wanted a co-MOH to help with the shower and bachelorette party. So, I asked another friend that likes party planning to be her Co-MOH. Then that friend dropped out due to financial issues, leaving my sister as my only MOH.

Also, I am fuming because out of the seven bridesmaids that said they would be in my wedding one year ago, I only have four left. Two of the remaining bridesmaids are acting wierd and will not answer phone calls and one of them is my sister who I am seriously thinking about kicking out of the wedding.

So, back in September I invited my bridesmaids to this really fancy tea and paid for them all. It was kind of like a thanks for being my bridesmaid kick off luncheon to see who was really serious about still being in the wedding. Only two out of ten people showed up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is when I was planning to give out these cute official invites to be in the bridal party (even though they already said yes to a verbal ask). That is about the time everyone started dropping out.

So, I mailed the invites to the remaining bridesmaids who could not make it. One called me back and left a message but acted wierd and the other one I have not heard from (although I know she is getting married in a few weeks and did not even invite me!!!)

So I am wondering what the heck I am supposed to do since they all have to get their dresses ordered over the next six weeks. So, I decide to send them a nice packet of information and make it look really cute. It has everything in it they need to know about ordering the dresses, booking a hotel room, etc.

My sister comes over and I give her the packet and she completely flips out on me!!!!!!! She tells me she does not have time to read the packet and will never read the packet. Then she proceeds to say that she does not have time or the money to be in my wedding and if I force her to read packets, she will drop out. What the heck???!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Nice MOH, right?

So then I tell her she has to get her dress by the 2nd week of January and she freaks and starts screaming about it being Christmas and all. I reminded her that I asked her a whole year ago and she should have been saving the $$$. Plus, she has six weeks to put down $68 for the deposit and can pay the other half in April. She can even use a credit card to pay it. Honestly, I did not think $68 was too much too ask.

Then I tell her that my nephew (who is a junior groomsman) will need a tux and it will cost between $80-$130, but she does not need to get that for a few months yet. That really set her off! She asked me why he needs a tux when he is not even in the wedding. What the heck!!!!!!!!!!! I asked her a whole year ago if he could be a junior groomsman and she said yes. Now she is claiming she did not realize he would be walking down the aisle. Give me a break!

She is now responsible for my shower and bachelorette party, which I am sure will not happen if she is in charge. I am seriously thinking about planning and paying for it myself and just inviting my friends to come along.

She had me so upset I just started bawling. This is my sister. She is supposed to be happy for me and supportive. I understand she is not happy in her own life, but that does not give her the right to ruin my wedding!!!

To top everything, she asks me why we have to get the dresses so early and I tell her that is what the store told me. My wedding is in June which is right during wedding and prom season, so everything takes longer. Then she yells at me for having my wedding in June and tells me I should have considered that the dresses had to be ordered in December and that was incovenient for everyone.

I felt like saying, 'It is my wedding and I will have it whenever I want!'

To make matters worse if her boyfriend proposes soon (which he might) there is a chance she will decide to have her wedding either before mine or the same month. She has balls! I talked to my mom about it and she does not see anything wrong with that. She does not see that she is doing it to be downright spiteful and to take the attention away from me.

Well, I was engaged before and the guy dumped me and we had to cancel everything and I was completely humiliated. You would think my own family would be happy for me instead of trying to sabotage my special day!!!!!!!!!!!

I am at the point where I am ready to say forget all the bridesmaids. If I have nobody, oh well. I am sick of worrying about it.

Re: Serious Sister Drama!

the only people that matter are you and fh < 3

its actually nice that u have 7 months left - if you cut out all the drama now you can enjoy the next 7 months. try and speak with each girl that is left in the bp and tell them nicely that u realize it could be expensive (even though i totally agree with you that its crap) that youd understand if they had to drop out. tell them they must order the dress now for the reasons you mentioned above and if they dont then they are out but will still be invited to the wedding-i wouldnt be surprised if they do not show. the people who are there for you keep in your life and those that are not let go forever- u do not need that negative energy. you can plan a bachelorette party and shower- maybe ask mom for help. my mom and aunt are helping with my shower. i have no clue if i will have a bachelorette party although i do have bms. too..i dont even need one, just care about the shower. its better to have one good friend than lots of crappy friends that just give you grief. even if that one good friend is also ur husband.

maybe you can have a really nice day out with that one good bm that u may make moh inside of a traditional bachelorette party. it could be just as special and just as fun.

oh and that bm that didnt even invite u to her wedding?! thats weird- i would get rid of that one- nicely.

good luck < 3

Re: Serious Sister Drama!

OMG I'm so sorry you are going through this.. I remember you posting the tea party turnout.
I think you can try to do many things.
1. let time go by sit down with your sis and tell her how your feeling,......just plain feelings about everything. Let her know how excited you've been that your sister is apart of this special moment in your life and feeling sad about her reactions. Maybe asking her how you can help her not feel so 'anxious' or whatever she's feeling. If you mention that she's resentful or any of the sort she'll go into defensive mode and you don't want that.
that is the only bm I would try to salvage. As for your friends, if they keep it up, don't be nice about it, be selfish it's your day, tell them you've changed your mind and don't want a big wedding party after all...you can say there are other ways for my friends to be apart of your special day and you don't want to burden them with responsibilites.
As. for the shower and bachelorette, maybe a low key dinner with your close friends and family and don't expect anything more.

2. you can also go the other road and send everyone to hell no explanation, but I think you want you sis in your wedding, cause simply that. she's your sis

Re: Serious Sister Drama!

Honestly, if my sister was treating me that way, I would tell her to go eff herself and drop her as MOH. There is no explanation for her behavior. I think its terrible you have someone so close to you acting like this and Im sorry you have to deal with it. Sounds like you would be better off without a bridal party.

wow im so sorry you are going through this..but i agree with you 100%..it seems very unfair to you..would you ever consider finding another moh? because honestly your sister does not sound like shes supporting that role..and to have her wedding in the same month as you..is just wrong!

Re: Serious Sister Drama!

Thanks for all the support everyone! I am starting to feel better now.

My sister called me and left a so called apology. I hate it when people 'apologize' but it is more like they are sorry for hurting your feelings are having the fight, but are sticking to their guns as far as what they said that started the fight to begin with.

Well, she says she wants to be in the wedding, so we shall see... In the meantime I asked my good friend Anita to be MOH. At this point she is the only person I can count on. I might ask my friend Lucy too. She seemed excited about coming to my bachelorette party.

Someone asked if these are friends or acquaintances I asked to be BMs. I would consider them to be friends. I think they would consider me to be their friend. At least I hope so. Most of them dropped out for financial reasons, which I can kind of understand since my wedding is in Long Island and we all live in Pennsylvania. My thing is that I would do anything to be in a friend's wedding if they asked me. To me that is such an honor. I do not understand why they do not feel the same, but maybe they really are in worse shape financially than what I realize.

One of the problems I have with my friends is that we are all sooo busy. We are all overachievers who work tons of hours and are involved with a lot of other clubs and organizations besides. It is hard for us to get together as much as we would like due to our crazy schedules, plus it takes $$$ to go out and right now I have none due to the wedding.

Two of my friends who are acting wierd are ones I was friends with through my job, but hung out with outside of work too. Now that they quit, I do not see them as much. My one friend called me yesterday and said she wants to be in the bridal party, but has some questions first cause she has some new developments in her life.
Does that mean she is pregnant???

The other one who is getting married in a few weeks and did not invite me to her wedding...well, that is completely tacky, but she said she was having a very small wedding (like 50 people) and it was all close family and a few high school friends. Still, I thought that was rude. I had asked her to be in my BP before I found out I was not invited. I was hoping to be a BM in her wedding, but when I found out I was not even invited, I was a little insulted.

Oh well, at this point I am focusing on myself and my FH. Let them do whatever. I am making up my mind not to expect anything from them and to be happy regardless.

Re: Serious Sister Drama!

i hope it gets better for you!! i'm the type who woudl try to work everything out to make it possible for everyone.. EXCEPT for the chick who is getting married and didn't even invite u.. HER i'd drop as a bm.. and quiet possibly woudln't even invite her to my wedding.. (but then again.. i can be a bit mean.. and u seem like a really nice person)

again I wish u the best.. and u'r right to focus on u and u'r fh.. that's all that counts!
