seriously considering cancelling

seriously considering cancelling

our wedding We are paying 100% by ourselves and I just don't see how we can afford it at all.

we need approx $8K more prob more like $10 thats at least $1K a month, I am a substitute teacher looking for full time employment. He just got out of the Marine Corp and is searching for a good paying job. I am supposed to start working for Kaplan University next Sunday, but it is $7/hour for training and then $20/hour for teaching. Training takes 5 weeks and is 4 hours each Sunday. They also pay you for 10 hours each week for the work they expect you to do at home. (at the $7/hour rate I believe) We might be able to do it but I am so scared.

Sorry for the rambling but I am so sad.

Re: seriously considering cancelling

thanks girls

I will not postpone it further as we have been engaged since August of 2003

His Marine Corp career held us up already. I will (if I have to) just have a JOP wedding and send out announcements.

Re: seriously considering cancelling

Can you borrow the $$ from someone?
You will get cash gifts from the wedding so you could pay the person back right after the wedding.

I am so sorry you have to deal with this.

Re: seriously considering cancelling

My brother is willing to loan us 3K if we need it just before the wedding as long as we give it right back from our gifts because he will be buying a house soon. he is the best!! I think I can def. pull it off now. I hated having to ask but I really didn't want to cancel. Now, if I can just find a way to make a few more bucks on the side, I will be okay.

Re: seriously considering cancelling

FH and I were thinking of canceling our wedding until the following year, I was not happy about it. We needed extra money and applied for a loan. Thank god we were approved. Hopefully the amount of money we borrowed is more than enough.

Can you take out a loan?

I hope it all works out. I know what you mean cause our wedding is in 76 days and I don't know where this money will come from. We have a credit card we have not used and saving for 'wedding expenses' well we are officially putting it to use with the tuxes, rings, honeymoon and whatever we get after the wedding will pay it off.
GOOD LUCK!!! That is so nice of your brother

Re: seriously considering cancelling

Im so sorry to hear about your frustrating situation. Things can be done, you can take out a reasonable personal loan which you then can pay off after you get married. Try to scale back and just have a simple and beautiful wedding...there is really no need for the extras, and you can always honeymoon afterwards...I hope all works out for you but please dont get discouraged! You're obviously an ambitious girl and dont let things like that bring you down..in my eyes everything is doable... Good Luck with everything!

Re: seriously considering cancelling

I personally would do the JOP and not start marriage in debt with a loan for the wedding or at zero because you just made it. Celebrate down the road with a vow renewal at a destination or a full wedding later on when your not stretching to cover the costs. I know its easier said then done but after the day is over and your left with the bills it might not be worth it.

We took out a loan. It's tough. We're paying 100% too.

Everyone has some kind of debt...I think taking out a loan for a wedding of your dreams justifies that debt...plus you can use the money you get from gifts to pay some or all of it right away...I think if someone wants to do it they should.

awe--im sorry you are having these problems.

are you guys getting a tax refund? if so, did you calculate that in? I'm so sorry...but keep your chin up...have faith it will work out. Worse case...scale back/shorten guest list...if not, postpone a few extra months. Just remember that you love each other ...and you will be married but you shouldn't be stressed out so much that you lose the joy in the planning. Hugs for you.

I respect what you're saying, I just have a different opinion. If a bride wants her dream wedding, and doesn't mind taking out a loan then by all means go for it! I just would not do that. I took a second job for five months so I do understand shortage of funds and having to find a way to cover the difference so the only debt we have is a house.
