Settle a friendly debate between myself & a fellow 2007'er

What is the difference between Maid vs. Maitron of honor?

One you are married & the other you are not.

Can you be a maid if you are married?

Does one hold higher status than the other?

TIA

Love ya PrincessAurora

The difference is whether they are married or not.

Matron - Married
Maid - Unmarried

There's no difference in status. Maid is if you're unmarried and Matron is if you're married.

But can you still be called a maid of honor if you are a married woman???

Nope, then you'd be called a Matron of Honor.

My friend wants to refer to me as a Maid of Honor but I am married.

Her sister, who she is not as close to & is also married, will be the matron.

But I will walk before her...thoughts???

I will be married for 1 year at the time of her wedding

I would call you both Matron, and you could still walk before her sister.

But if you and your friend want you to be called Maid then go for it!!! It's ok to break some rules!!

You would be the matron of honor since you are married and her sister would be the matron of honor as well since she is married too.

Who walks before who, is really the brides decision.

I'm having both my sisters and they are both matron of honors, I may have them walk up together.

I hear ya Cindy it is her wedding! She is insisting to call me her maid not matron and I keep telling her that I should 'technically' be a matron. She feels maid means closer

She can call you the queen of the ball if she wants. Its her wedding .

With that being said, technically you are a maitron of honor, as is her sister. If she wants you to walk first, then go for it.

maid= unmarried
matron= married

so shouldn't married bridesmaids be bridesmatrons then?

How will you decide who stands closest to you?

They are both the EXACT same role in a wedding but if you are married then you are a Matron of Honor, not married you are a Maid of Honor...same role just different title!

they both have the same status

however, my Matron of Honor has told me REPEATEDLY never to use that MATRON word in front of her. . . EVER bc it makes her feel old

my vendors have all been introduced to her as me 'maid of honor' and then when they find out she is married they all try to correct us. . . its pretty funny

so i will have a Married Maid of honor!

( i am not having programs or anything like that so i guess theres no 'official' place to put it. . . )
