Share with me

Hiya ladies!

I was wondering if you did anything special to let your families and in-laws (or maybe even DH!!)know you're pregnant... We're just TTC now, and I'm already trying to come up with unique ways of sharing the news

We didn't do anything special to announce the pregnancy - just phone calls b/c we were living 3,000 miles away.

But, when we found out we were having a boy, it was Christmastime. We wrapped up a pair of blue booties for each set of grandparents and made them open it like a gift. It took them all a couple of minutes to figure it out, but when they did, their faces were priceless!

You could actually do the same idea, but instead of it being pink or blue or gender-specific, you could wrap a small gift or frame that says 'Grandma' 'Grandpa' or 'Daddy' (for your DH!)

We shared the news with our families on Fathers Day. We gave each of our dad's (grandpa to be), a picture frame that said grandpa and had a picture from the first sonogram in it. My mom got her gift that day too since I had not seen her on Mothers Day. I gave her a charmholder/pin that says Grandma. She thought she got the wrong gift. Since my grandmother was there too she told me she thinks I gave her 'Grandma's' gift. I said you are a grandma now. Everyone started catching on. It worked well.

Re: Share with me

When I was pregnant the first time, I wanted to do what Victoria did, but my DH wasn't too thrilled with that idea. So after my parents 40th anniversary party, we had both sets of parents come back to our house and we told them then.

This time around, I was too scared and nervous to think of anything fun and exciting because I was so busy worrying about miscarrying again. We waited the 3 months and when I left the dr's office, we called them on our way to the diner!!

As for telling my DH, I had visions of buying a baby Mickey doll or something that said 'daddy' on it, but my DH told me I was pregnant both times before I knew myself!! He made me go out and buy a test the first time and this time he just kept saying 'you're pregnant, don't bother with the test'.

Everyones stories are so cute. Debbie, Joe is a riot ! LOL.

We were due 5 days before our 2nd anniv. So what we told everyone was 'oh, guess where we're going for our 2nd anniversary ???'
'To the hospital to have a baby !!!

and sure enough ten minutes to midnight on our anniversary, my water broke !

These stories are so cute.

Debbie, I think my husband will be like yours. He is so darn nosey. He would definitely know before I can confirm.

Victoria .... that's such a great story!! I wish I had something good, but I was so excited to call everyone & couldn't even think straight. I just blurted it out! Maybe next time!

I gave the grandma's a baby photo frame with a note inside (where the photo goes) saying 'Photo coming Nov. 29, 2003'
It took them a minute to figure out what was going on, but it worked out really cute.

Re: Share with me

I have waiting in my drawer the book' My boys can Swim' for my DH-- but chances are I will come out of the bathroom screaming
I am really trying to come up with something for our parents though-- I like all your ideas-- I know my MIL will know if we hand her a present so was thinking instead to tell them that we finally picked out furniture for the guest room and then show them the nursery furniture!!!
but if we get lucky we might be on vacation in Aruba with my mom so i might tell her then!!!
We'll see how it goes-- I have to admit I was in TJ Maxx last night looking for I love Grandma/Grandpa bibs!!!! Thank god we start trying at the end of the month--

Laura,
I actually gave my FIL an 'I love Grandpa' bib when eveyrone else got their gifts. He does not give presents and usually does not accept them. We promised him this was a 'little something'. He said it was the best present he has ever gotten. He got his gift open before anyone else and did not want to ruin the fun. What a great guy. SO, he just hugged each of us and whispered 'Congratulations' in our ears.

Re: Share with me

Laura, I LOVE that book idea for DH!! Everything almost always turns into a 'YEESS' thing with the boys

Hm...i know what you mean about the grandparents-to-be suspecting based on a 'gift'... one thing I thought of was actually a bite off a friend's marriage proposal idea... to re-program the welcome note on the cell phone to say 'Hi Grammy' or 'Hi Grampa'... tell them you have to check a number or whatever, then 'accidentally' shut it off so they have to put it on and 'see' the news.

Feel free to share any other ideas you come up with !

We took a test the night we came back from our honeymoon. We had gone to Jamacia so we brought our parents back coffee. We attached cloth diaper pins to the coffee bag. I also included a bib that said I love my Grandpa for my Dad(This will be his first grandchild)
