Oh mi gosh Sue, you're more than generous! I'm getting gifts for my BM's too but we're not paying for their hair and make-up. I hope they appreciate the gowns.

As sad as it is, the general consensus seems to be that if it's your wedding than you should pay for everything...I guess that's the current trend...

then I must be a biatch because I'm not paying for anything...(gown, hair makeup)....I'll be getting my hair and makeup done of course and I'm gonna ask the girls in advance if they want in but I can't foot that bill....I'm going to get them a gift but you guys are so generous I can't get over it ...I kinda feel bad

No, you are NOT a biatch at all. I WISH I could have back the money that was spent on my Bridesmaids.

Even the 1 whose gown I paid for had major complaints...to the extent that she went shopping on her own and called me to tell me that SHE found a better dress...

My mother paid to have their shoes dyed. I paid to have their hair done. I paid for the shipping on their gowns (I ordered them online, so they only paid $134 for their gowns which retailed for $250).

There were complaints about the hair. All I said was 'wear it up'...they could pick ANY updo they wanted, but even that was an issue.

I bought the jewelery and of course there were complaints from some (about 14K gold earrings with genuine garnets)

....If I knew that they thought being a bridesmaid meant that *I* would be taking care of their every whim, I would have only had 1 MOH. When I was in bridal parties, we always did what we could to make the bride happy...

Holy Cow! You guys are scaring me!!! How am I ever going to afford this crap!!! Budget??? what budget??? how can you even have a budget? And WHO actualy sticks to there Budget!!!!

I spent under $17,000 for everything, including the hall for 100 guests. The only thing that did not include was our honeymoon - everything else is in that figure (including rings, gifts, everything.) You can cut costs in a lot of places if you are willing to. You have to figure out what your non-negotiables are and what you can live without and stick to it. If you are trying to stick to a budget, the toughest thing in my opinion, is not to cave into the pressure other people put on you to invite certain people or have certain things that you don't want (and these are usually people who are NOT paying for them!)

We spent a little over 17K ..close to 18k for everything including almost 130 guests and a honeymoon in Jamaica..if you include spending money it comes to under 20k. There is alot of pressure and sometiems you have to remember who the wedding is for. People want alot and I agree they are not the ones paying for them. We cut costs where we could. But certain things we knew we wanted. Dh was not a big fan of nicely decorated ballrooms, he wanted a view and Sat night so that was tough right off the bat cause he wanted warm weather. Both our parents helped us with what they could. We tried not to ask/take becasue we have seen parents spend $$ then instead of the couple it is the parents..one of my friends mom lost thier house because of their kids wedding Honestly I look back and think wow I am glad I did not give into budget pressure becasue all our guests remember is the fun they had lol. And the funny thing is..most of the older guests said that their weddings were so simple in comparisson..when in retrospect we think we had a simple wedding

Re: Share Your Wedding BUDGET Please

We made the mistake of making our budget like this: FI's sister paid about $60,000 for her LI wedding, and my sister paid a little less than $20,000 for her San Diego wedding. Let's aim for $40,000 - right in the middle. What we should have done was figure out how much we can really afford. Luckily, with tips from this website and lots of research and ebay shopping, I've trimmed it to just over $25,000 (assuming we're able to keep our guest # under control for the reception), which is still tight. My parents gave us $5000, and FI parents paid/paying for e-party, DJ, florist, and RD. Here's what our budget looks like:

All bride's attire, jewelry, etc: $1000
Groom attire: $0
Gifts (BP, parents, readers, etc): $1100
RD: $0
Florist: $1000 (FIL are paying)
DJ: $1690 (though FIL are paying)
Officiant: $0 (friend)
Ceremony site: $750
Photo: $1600 (will order pics and album later)
Video: $1600
Invites: $200
hair (including trial): $150
makeup (including trial): $150
transportation:$0
rings: $500
favors: $400
programs (DIY): $20
menus (DIY): $10
bathroom baskets: $30
wedding night hotel (2 nights): $400
honeymoon: $3500 plus spending money
STDs (incl stamps): $60
OOT bags: $50

Plus other incidentals.

I personally think if you have requirements for your BP than you should pay for them.

I made sure I picked a dress that was not too expensive. After that, I told them to pick what ever shoes they wanted (one BM even dyed her wedding shoes the color of my BM dress and that was fine with me). I also told them they could have their hair and makeup any way they wanted. If they wanted to get it done, fine with me. If not, that's fine with me too. I didn't tell them they had to do anything. I thought it was unfair to tell them they HAVE to do all this stuff and spend $500++ for my wedding, especially after they already paid for my shower, bach-party, engagement gifts and were going to be giving us wedding gifts.

That was exactly what I did. I figured they could do whatever they wanted, and it would be fine. JMHO - I don't like BM that all look alike, but that's my opinion only - some people really like it, and it looks great too. In any case, I am sure my BP will all look beautiful - because they are beautiful, inside and out. (that's why they're my BP )

I'm not paying for the BM dresses,,I never heard of that being done,,but it is very thoughtful....................

I agree ... it would be so nice if I could do it. But, I figure it this way - three girls in my BP I was in/will be in theirs - so I bought mine for theirs, they buy theirs for mine - I guess it evens out

Hi,

I saw your posting and are having a day of wedding person for $500. Do you have someone booked yet? Can you tell me who you are using for that price? That is how much I wanted to spend on a day of coordinator.
