Re: Sharing the news with family

I had a sonogram at 71/2 weeks (My doctors office does one between 8-10 weeks) but I convinced them to do it early for me as my inlaws were coming up from florida for a pre-christmas celebration before we left for hawaii on our honeymoon (our wedding was 2 weeks before but since i teach we waited until christmas recess to go on our honeymoon). Anyway, we had a big family (both sides) celebration on Dec 22nd and gave both his parents and my parents the exact same wrapped gift boxes as their christmas gifts before everyone else arrived. Inside was the sonogram. My mom screamed with joy and my mil cried her eyes out with joy. It was such a wonderful surprise for them. They knew we wanted children right away but they never expected that quickly.

We told our families when I was about 5-6 weeks. I had the positive HPT but had not gone to the doctor yet. For my family we got everyone together-it was the night before Valentine's Day. And we gave my mom a trifold picture frame. We put pictures of her 2 other grandchildren in and in the center slot we wrote her a poem that said:

First came Tea the sparkle in your eye
Then came Gregory your handsome little guy
Come October we will see
What you think of me, number three

For his family we gave his mom a card and mug for her birthday that said I love you Grandma.

I waited about 7 weeks to tell my immediate family. I wanted to wait until my first dr appt but since I couldn't get one until I was 9 weeks I couldn't wait any longer. We asked our parents and siblings to hold our secret until we were ready to tell others. We told other close family about 2-3 weeks later after first dr appt and very close friends around week 10-12 as we saw them. Everyone else was after 12 weeks.

Re: Sharing the news with family

I just shared the news with my family on monday night. It was my husbnads birthday so we had the family over. My sister was late so I needed to wait for her before telling everyone. While we waited my Dad kept filling my champagne glass...which I kept sneaking away to dump down the sink .
When sis showed up I made a toast...to husbands bday, to sisters new business venture and to 'Dad who is going to be a grandfather'. Everyone's jaws droppped. They never saw it coming. It was so fun. Now it seems real.
We're seeing my inlaws on thansgiving so we'll probably give my MIL a grandma frame or t-shirt as a gift. Any ideas where i can get stuff like that?

Re: Sharing the news with family

We told them after our first doctor's appointment. We stopped by my mom's on the way home and gave her a 'I Love My Grandma' bib. Then I called my whole family from there.

The next weekend we were going to visit ILs in Florida for a long weekend, and we gave them a bib that said 'I Love My Grandparents' bib. We'd told BIL earlier in the day, since he drove us to the airport. We gave DH's grandparents a rattle, since we couldn't find any great-grandparent things.

To each of the 3 things, I used a diaper pin to attach a clip art baby buggy that I cut out of yellow paper that said 'See you around February 24! Love, Baby Lastname'

My dad and I aren't that close, so I just emailed him after we got back from FL.

They were all pretty surprised, they thought that we were going to wait another year until we'd gotten more stuff done around the house. But thrilled. I think my mom and ILs have not stopped smiling.
