...and now she wont go down for the night before 12am!! usually Julianne will nod off after rob and I finally eat dinner...and sleep a bit until 10pm. then she wants to feed..which I do and put her in her jammies...she used to fall asleep by 1030 or 11. lately she is a bit more cranky and wont nod off until 12midnight....and only after another diaper change, maybe 2 more feedings, countelss walks around the house, with her up on my shoulder and speaking softly to her, jiggling her, etc. I even tried to put her in her swing hoping it would let her nod off and she was enjoying the swing WIDE AWAKE!!!! I haven't had anything diff to eat the last 2 days...except a seafood dinner on sunday. ( yay! finally got out of the house to eat!)
I am baffled. I tried to have her cry a bit last night b4 I went to her...but after 20 min, I couldn't let her go on like that.
She has been sufferieng on and off with a stuffy nose for about 3 weeks now. dr says there is nothing more to do but use our humidifier, use saline drops from time to time, and have her sleep in her bouncer ( more upright).
I am baffled, frustrated, very tired, and actually jealous that my hubby gets to leave the house to go to work! (ths cold weather stinks!)
Any words of advice?

Re: she changed her sleep schedule ARGH
I remember going through the same thing are you. Emma was a great sleeper then it was HORRIBLE. How are her naps during the day?? Have they changed?? The better a baby sleeps during the day, the better they sleep at night. Have you tried making her last nap a little earlier?? What about listening for her to make the slightest noise at night then racing in to help her back to sleep before shes fully awake(I got that one out of 'The No-Cry Sleep Solution' and it worked for me). OR when she gets up leave her in her crib just be there. Keep the room dark. Or just hold her in her dark room. She should learn night time is sleep time. I dont think it has anything to do with you or what you've eatten. She is growing and more aware of her surroundings and wants to be a part of them. Her teeth may be starting to just inch up and bother her. I only say that because of her stuffy nose. Emma was stuffy from day one because she didnt get SQUEEZED out through the escape hatch (c-section) and the aspirator, saline drops (which she hated) and the humidifier helped along with proping the end of her bassinet up so she wasnt sleeping flat. It will get better. Dont worry. Its probably just a phase she is going through. As long as you get your breaks when DH gets home you can regain your sanity. I hope it gets better for you soon!!!!

Oh, Phyl...I'm sorry you're having such a difficult time right now. It will get better, I promise. I don't really have any additional advice to what Karen said. It's true that if babies aren't sufficiently rested during the day, they will have trouble sleeping at night. However, I think that maybe your DD is a little too small for that to apply. She's so little that it's nearly impossible to have a 'schedule' for her yet. She's probably still trying to figure day from night. Hang in there...and take a break when DH comes home...you need that to stay sane!

shes napping now
started to nap at 10am...i finally wound down enuf to lay there on the couch and slept for about 45 min ( HEAVEN!) she got up at 1130, had a diaper change and a feeding and was in a general good mood. was on the phone with hubby and had to put her down so I put her back in her swing. by the time we hung up, she was sleeping again.
I am reading and hearing a lot of dont wake a sleeping baby- and dont wake her during the day to think she'll sleep more at night...so I will let her sleep as long as she needs to.
I dont get much of a break when daddy gets home. rob is great with her as long as she is happy. when she cries, he tried to comfort her....but he is not or at least seems not to comfortable with her..and he tries all sorts of things to calm her but winds up giving her back to me...oh well...i guess we ALL have to learn about each other.
I have reached out at night to her in her bouncer tojiggle it and rub her a bit to cause her to sleep...sometimes it works sometimes it doesnt.
I think Anna uses a co sleeper in her bed. I am doing some reading on co sleeping and it funny that it is seen as a strange practice in the US...and is the norm overseas. I guess it is OKAY to use whatever works? I dont want her to become 'addicted' to her swing....

Re: shes napping now
Phyl - because of my lack of movement from my c-section and I was breastfeeding I had Emma sleep with me for the first 2 months. It was SO nice to know she was safe (and breathing) and I was there when she needed me. Big plus... she slept so much better. I saw a survey about the races and income levels of people who co-sleep.. it was so rude to single people out that way. I fit into the smallest percentage of people for my 'level' co-sleeping. I say screw em. If it works for you do it!!! Just be safe about it... no down feather blankets, no heavy blankets, move pillows from baby (I had Emma sleeping with her head on my arm so I was cuddling her all night) and make sure daddy doesnt roll over on her. They say mommy has mommy radar to know where her baby is but daddy doesnt. Good Luck!!!!!!
