We are thinking about getting a puppy, not 100% sure which breed to go for. I was wondering if anyone knows of any breeders, we went looking at puppy stores but we don't want to buy one there we prefer a Private Breeder. Any info would be a BIG help!

Re: Shetland Sheepdog or American Eskimo
My sister has an American Eskimo and she's 14 but still thinks she's a puppy! They bought her at a private breeder in upstate NY - I think around the Albany area.
She's a gorgeous dog but a little too good of a watchdog - she attacks anyone who enters the house!

Re: Shetland Sheepdog or American Eskimo
MY ex-boss had one American Eskimo who was an awesome dog - really sweet and fun. He got hit by a car and they got another one..... this dog was like Cujo! He didn't like anyone - even his owners.

FH had a shetland sheepdog for about 14 years (he just lost her this past summer) I have to tell you she was the most loyal, loving, and protective dog ever. From what have read it is very characteristic of the breed.

I have a sheltie and she is the best dog. She is very smart. My mother and I didn't really know how to train a dog but she was such a fast learner. She is always worried about how we feel. If we are happy she is the happiest thing, if your sad she tries to cheer you up! She has never ever tried to run. One time we left her out front by accident and she just sat on the stoop and waited for us! I recommend the sheltie 100%.

The cacc in brooklyn has a two year old pure breed american eskimo up for adoption.nycacc
Please don;t purchse from a pet store. LOok into rescuing one from a rescue agency(start with petfinders).
If you must purchase one, go to a reputable breeder, not a back yard breeder.

Awww...that's just how Lassie was. She always knew when people were sad.
