I had a really nice experience at Pricilla of Boston in Roslyn Heights (I think). I wasn't going to go there at all because the website said the dresses started at $2000 and that was more than I wanted to spend, but I looked anyway. It turned out they had a number that were for at least a little under that. And I almost bought a sample off the rack (I think it was about 30-40% off) from them (I still might buy it but I doubt it cause by the time I decide it'll probably be gone) but it was in pristine condition. The girl who helped me - Julie -was so nice and helpful. I went back to show the dress to someone else and had a different girl who wasn't as friendly but still nice. It's a beautiful store though it was kind of wierd because I never saw a lot of dresses. I guess they are kept upstairs and you tell the salesperson what you are looking for and she brings out some. Julie did a really good job of picking mostly stuff I might like. Anyway, you might want to try there because they have some really beautiful dresses and nice people to work with. One thing I also thought was cool with them for shorter girls like myself, they actually do make dresses in a Petite size so when you get it, there is less to alter.

Oneday-do you have the number for Pricilla of Boston? The one that I found online does not work...
KC, I love Paloma dresses!! I tried on a few, but it was before I realized that I did not like too much sparkly stuff, like the more simple gowns-so I need to go back to try some classic gowns from her line at Lillette's.
My mom is coming into the city Friday afternoon, and I am leaving work early so that I can hit RK Bridal and go nuts! I dont know if I would buy a dress there, but am def into trying lots of styles and designers. Also going to check out the Wedding Salon. I am so excited, this is by far the most fun part of wedding planning (except I want to buy every dress I try on!)

I had a frustrating day of schlepping around NYC trying out some of these smaller bridal shops...I cant wait to go back out to LI again now for the full salon treatment! Lillettes is on my list on places to hit. I really love one Paloma gown, I have tried it on like 4 times, but once I take it off again, I start to second guess it and think it might be too simple or too plain. But I put it on and I love it! I guess I'll have to keep shopping around a bit more....please keep me posted on your how it is going!

hmichick...jim hjelm makes some GORGEOUS gowns and some are a lot like what you're looking for...although im not sure of a place to recommend for buying...

The number I have on their card is the same as the one on the website. 516-484-2080. I know it's worked when I've called them.
