Shopping for Pants

Shopping for Pants

Seriously, are women not supposed to have curves anymore???

I know I can't be the only one that finds it next to impossible to find pants that fit well, and are made of decent material.

In my recent shopping excursion, I was able to find jeans .. but I really need pants for work.

I was amazed that the company whose jeans I purchased had absolutely nothing close to being acceptable out of a wide variety of dress pants .. how can that be???

Basically .. my problem .. is when I find something that fits nicely through my hips, the waist is way too big!! Okay, so I have hips .. but my waist to hip ratio is not way out of line .. but I'm also not straight through my hips, either.

Anyone else with this problem .. what have you done???? And for the record, I am not a fan of tight-fitting clothes .. so for me, I don't want pants that fit tight through my arss, hips and thighs. Of course, I'm not a fan of spending 50 bucks for a pair of pants either .. in the past, I've been able to get suitable work pants for $19.99 at Kohls .. but they don't carry those pants anymore.

I usually go with the size that fits my arse & thigs & then get the waist tailored

Now that's a pain in the arss!

Sorry .. just being goofy .. but seriously .. why are women's clothes not cut the way many women are shaped??

Re: Shopping for Pants

This is my biggest gripe - the juniors clothes are cut way to small and the misses clothes are cut way to big - I am somewhere in between!!!! Its darn near impossible for me to find a good fitting pair of pants -
and don't get me started on the lengths of the pants!!! They make them way too long!!!!!
And the petites aren't usually as stylish!!
And I hate spending money on a pair of pants and then having to still take them to get hemmed.

I've found that NY and Co. actually makes 'curvy' pants. Well, curvier than say... J Crew... but I usually have a bit of success there, and oddly Old Navy.

This is what I do too and then I ALWAYS need a hem! So when all is said and done the pants cost an extra $25!

I have such a hard time finding pants- I cannot wear the super low rise pants- because I have to get a size too big and then I get that weird extra fabric at my lower back.
SO annoying.

I am 5'11' so finding pants that fit my LEGS is more of a problem. Before baby, I had the perfect arse and mid section, and COULD wear the 'in' jeans. Now as the more conservative mom.. I am not having any fun!! (clothes shopping, that is )LOL.... I second Old Navy. The only thing that stinks about them is you gotta try on a few of the same pairs for a REALLY good fit.. They're all cut differently.

I know you don't want to spend a lot but definitely try Victoria's Secret - I get all my work pants from them. They have different cuts for your body shape.

Plus, if you are tall like me they carry longs!!!

How do you know what size for the VS pants? What is a good company to compare the VS ones to.

Re: Shopping for Pants

I was just complaining about this the other day!!! I've been shopping for work clothes and so far all I can buy are skirts because NONE of the pants fit me correctly. It's the same thing you're talking about--the pants that fit in the waist look really tight in the thigh/a$$ region, like I'm going to a club instead of work. So, I go a size up (which never makes me happy) and then the legs fit, but the waist is huge and the crotch of the pant is somewhere around my knee.

It's very frustrating because I'm looking at $80-90 pants and after paying that much, I'm supposed to spend MORE money to get them tailored?!!?!? I don't know what I'm going to do in the winter because I don't have any pants!!!

Thanfully I 'dress down' for work- so it's all about jeans, blazers, sweaters, etc...
I need to do a MAJOR clothes shopping soon- I have nothing

I wanted to refresh my stock of pants .. and I had found a pair that were acceptable .. and had actually ordered a few of them, in a couple of different colors each several times .. but I guess they don't make them anymore, because I can't find them .. they've been gone since the spring after I found them about 2 years ago. So, I really could use a couple of new pairs of pants .. but I just keep striking out .. I'll try some of your store suggestions.

As for length .. I'm stuck between regulars being too short, especially after washing, and longs being too long, even after washing.

I just got really good washable pants from Eddie Bauer ... they are called Modern Trousers.

I also love old navy dress pants but they run big.
