So I'm going dress shopping soon and am worried that I'm going to get swallowed up by lengths of material. I'm shy of 5'feet and I know those dresses are going to be ridiculously long on me, even with heels! My concern is that I'm not going to get an accurate image of what I will look like in a dress. So my question is what dresses would look more flattering on a short bride? That way I can try them on and feel confident that it will still look good on me once altered.
Thanks!

Re: Short Brides
I just got my dress and I am also shy of 5 ft. i tried a ball gown n it looked really nice ..n i also tried a trumpet dress which was nice but not as nice as the ball gown.. I think u need a dress that the waist drops by the waist to lengthen u. ur best bet is to go in the stores n just try on different styles n c for urself.. also it depends on ur frame im a small frame! good luck hun

I am short too. 5 ft even to be exact and i was wondering the same thing. I haven't started dress shopping yet but I agree, im going to just try on a few different styles and see what makes me look a bit taller and not like a midget in a gown

No i am short too...im just around 5'1 and only about 97pds.....i started trying on dresses and i was definitely swimming in some of the dresses especially when some the sample sizes were 14 and 16's...but the bridal consultants were very very helpful in just pulling the dress as tight as they could to make sure it so i could get an accurate picture to what the dress was going to look like..also just tried on many different styles to find one that best fit so i didnt look so lost..HTH

I'm 4'11' and my gown is a ballgown. My recommendation is to try on all different styles, but remember that they will always be tailored to fit you proportionately.
ETA: definitely look for a gown with a basqued waist though......it'll elongate you in the torso area.

I'll definitely try that. I know that there are alot of wedding shows that tell you what kind of dresses look best with certain figures (can't for the life of me remember what they said shorter women should wear), and they make me so paranoid about picking something that might emphasize my shortness. But thanks girls, I will definitely try different styles and hope I pick the right one

I'm not short at all (5 foot 8 lol) but I am plus sized. And I feel like even if the dress doesn't 'fit' persay, the salons do a great job of getting you to be able to see what it would be like to wear it.

Re: Short Brides
im short and when I was trying the dresses on I had to pull up the dress inthe front to walk. dont worry because remember when you do find that dress its going to be ordered to your measurements. and like everyone else said try on EVERYTHING you can. you'd be surprised
