has anyone heard at RH's that you are not allowed to take shots??? my FH has a crazy family tradition of taking blackberry shots whenever everyone gets together...on a regular day there is always one 'mandatory' and then special occassions it can get a little out of conrol.
The shot they take is of blackberry brandy! and its gotta be a specific brand.
So i called my RH to make sure they can get the correct blackberry bandy becuase if there is none, there will be problems!!
so she goes 'is one bottle good' so i said umm prob not, there are going to be lots of shots taken by lots of people. and she said something like 'we normally dont allow shots...' and then stopped herself and was like hold on... so she was talking to someone in the background i guess trying to figure out if getting the specific brand would be a problem...and then finally came back and was like yup everything is fine, we will be able to get the blackberry no problem.
so am i going to be completely embarrassed when my FFIL goes up to the bar and asks for 12 shots of blackberry and they say 'sorry we dont allow shots'?????

Re: shots at RH
I've never heard that. What is the difference of having a shot compared to a drink?! I'm sure it won't be an issue that day. This is your event and you are not asking for a strange request. I'm sure everything will work out

Re: shots at RH
I am still looking for my RH & that is one of our standard ques. My FH is FDNY & that is part of their traditions. Anyway a lot of places say no, we then inquired if they would allow them to be done in the privacy of the bridal suite. A few of them agreed so this might be an option for you.....I know annoying!!!!

Re: shots at RH
i actually have heard of that.....and just recently checked our RH contract, and whew, nothing in there about shots!!
if they're going to be getting you the specific brand, i think you'll be fine....they're 'aware' of it now.

Re: shots at RH
a lot of places have a no shot policy. Fortunatly for us that was not the case. We had shots of Patron flowing all night. waiters also came around with all different flavored shots on the dance floor..
If that is important to you (it was to us) make sure they write it in your contract that they will allow it. Also always remember, you get what you pay for...offer something.

Re: shots at RH
DH and I actually decided on a 'no shot policy' at our wedding. We told the BM and he had the bartenders say it was the house policy, but served shots in a rocks glass if people insisted. Our reason? We didn't want our crazy boozey-azz friends getting wasted at our elegant black tie wedding! There was plenty of Grey Goose to go around, but we didn't want people doing shots like it was Mac Dougal Street, you know? But the Royalton will do whatever you want, they don't enforce no shots unless you ask! They actually MAKE jell-o shots for you if you want! I know Kerrijonhs wants them!!!

Re: shots at RH
well i guess the important thing is that the blackberry will be there, just how it gets served is another thing. Im sure everyone will find a way to take shots no matter what!
this is all just so weird to me, because every wedding ive been to served shots...i just thought it was normal so i never even thought to ask when we were looking for RH's.
i certainly dont want my wedding to turn into a crazy shot taking dunk mess! its just that its tradition (as crazy of a tradition it is) and i dont wanna be the one to break the tradition!

Re: shots at RH
Most RHs actually have the no shot policy but if you order a small blackberry brandy neat, it's no problem. Don't stress over it.

Re: shots at RH
Most RH's don't, I looked at 8 or 9 RHs and everyone has a no shot policy. I don't think they really enforce it if the bride or groom are involved but they will probably be in those larger glasses so watch out.

Re: shots at RH
We've never had a problem at weddings... My cousin's, my brothers, friends of ours, no one has ever said that shots are not offered. Also, I feel bad for the bartender that tells my FH that he's not 'allowed' to have shots I wouldn't worry, it should be fine

Re: shots at RH
My reception hall also did not allow shots. However before we went down to cocktail hour they brought a tray of shots in, including juice for the kids so we could all do a good luck toast. Also they let things slide a bit for our best man, etc..

I know, ugh!
I'm not a big shot taker...in fact, after a really unfortunate night with some chocolate martinis I barely even drink liquor any more, so I'll be sticking to wine for the most part. BUT my mother recently discovered that she is partial to shots of Patron, and I would pay GOOD money to have been able to see that!
