Shots (liquor) at the wedding?

Shots (liquor) at the wedding?

At every wedding I've ever been to, the bride and groom always do a couple shots with the BP and friends after the cake is done and most of the relatives have left.

We were at a wedding on Saturday, and the hall DIDN'T ALLOW SHOTS!!! Said it was 100% against policy. They wouldn't even give us straight liquor in a glass - 'mixed drinks, wine & beer ONLY'.

If this matters to you, you might want to call your RH and ask some questions. (I don't know if this is a big deal to anyone except my family!)

Cheers!

I've actually never even heard of this before. Sounds like fun though!

my hall does not allow it either. they gave us a couple of reasons as to why.

i didn't really want it anyway so i was happy about the rule (i have my own reasons as to why i didn't) so to us, it was OK b/c we agreed (even if it were for other reasons).

i have heard this from quite a few halls though. i know, as the bride and groom, you could request that the rule be changed BUT i was told at most of the places that once the bride and groom agree to it the hall enforces it and makes the guests abide... the same goes for beer out of bottles (all the places that said NO shots said NO beer out of bottles-- glasses only).

ODD!!! lol-- perhaps it was a specific request from the bride and the groom? the hall would never tell you that-- they would just make it like it was their policy so that there was not an 'uproar' lol 'storm the newlyweds!!!' like a scene from les mis or something

but IDK-- i just know all of the places that i personally saw with the 'no shot' rule also had the no bottles rule and a couple of other rules to guard against things that they felt were 'tacky' (their words)... but i did not, personally, come across a place that said NO to one but not the other-- hmmmm

Nic,

We did shots at the wedding. I have some great pics of my family doing shots with me and John. They gave it to us in small glasses.

the PLOT thickens!!!!!!!

wow, craziness-- just weird!!

even most of the 'high end' places that said they didn't want it or like it blah blah blah said that, if we wanted it, they would do it.... but that is def strange-- wow, thanks for sharing though! this will help a lot of other girls out who really want that at their wedding-- another thing to put on the 'what to ask at a RH meeting' list

Most places I checked out all had a no shot policy. My hall is the same, however, my MD said that if we bring some liquour in the bridal suite, what she doesn't see won't hurt her

I'm dying to know which catering hall this was, because I've been to tons of weddings and never heard of this before. If you don't want to post it, would you mind FM'ing me? Thanks!

Re: Shots (liquor) at the wedding?

We have a no shot policy at our hall and I am okay with that because I don't need to encourage certain to people drink to get drunk. My cousin's wedding the BP was absolutely plastered by the end of the wedding....so not such a terrible thing.

Oh that's a HUGE deal to me and my FH. I am going to sound like a total alcoholic but I def plan on doing shots on my wedding day. I don't drink often but when I do I like to get my freak on! Thanks for the heads up Nic bc I never even thought to ask!

Re: Shots (liquor) at the wedding?

We made sure we picked a place that allowed shots-that was one of my questions I went to the hall with. My FH's one question he would ask was:

'If there is a fire the day before the wedding, what would you do?'

The sad part is a few of the halls said they would refund $$, but not help us look for another hall! Just something to keep in mind when hall hunting.

My hall did not allow shots either but Gave them to us and BP in rocks glasses. They did not want people out of control and as much as I like to drink I did not either!

Re: Shots (liquor) at the wedding?

They don't allow shots at my hall. And I am happy about that. There are a couple of friends who live at the bar for shot after shot and would wind up face down in the bushes puking their guts up.

You can still request straight alcohol in a rocks glass... or you can do MY favorite - GUZZLERS! There are ways around everything!
