At every wedding I've ever been to, the bride and groom always do a couple shots with the BP and friends after the cake is done and most of the relatives have left.
We were at a wedding on Saturday, and the hall DIDN'T ALLOW SHOTS!!! Said it was 100% against policy. They wouldn't even give us straight liquor in a glass - 'mixed drinks, wine & beer ONLY'.
If this matters to you, you might want to call your RH and ask some questions. (I don't know if this is a big deal to anyone except my family!)
Cheers!

Re: Shots (liquor) at the wedding?
They didn't allow shots at my sister's wedding at CLM, but Matt the BM let us do one anyways! Most halls (I think) don't allow you to.

my hall does not allow it either. they gave us a couple of reasons as to why.
i didn't really want it anyway so i was happy about the rule (i have my own reasons as to why i didn't) so to us, it was OK b/c we agreed (even if it were for other reasons).
i have heard this from quite a few halls though. i know, as the bride and groom, you could request that the rule be changed BUT i was told at most of the places that once the bride and groom agree to it the hall enforces it and makes the guests abide... the same goes for beer out of bottles (all the places that said NO shots said NO beer out of bottles-- glasses only).
I'm surprised that Flowerfield doesn't allow this. I know that Land's End did.

Re: Shots (liquor) at the wedding?
I went to a wedding at my RH a few years ago and we wanted to do a shot of southern comfort. They said that shots werent allowed.
So, being a wise@ss I asked if we could each have a 'SoCo on the rocks, hold the rocks'. They kinda smiled and gave it to me

Re: Shots (liquor) at the wedding?
I have never actually been to a wedding that didn't allow shots...but, of the 20 halls I looked at, I would say 15 said they didn't allow shots. (Including all the lessings properties). FH was adamant about finding a hall that did because we come from a big group of drinkers. I didn't care either way.

I am 99% sure that it is a law and that is why they don't allow it.
You can get away with it though, but if you look on your contract, I bet it says it on every one of them

I've heard of this... during toasts someone I knew wanted to do tequila shots instead of champagne and they told her no. I should actually call b/c before everyone in the bp is announced to walk in the reception hall I want them all to do a shot.

Yes, I remember that! And I remember thinking, like you, how strange it was when I was at Nicole's wedding! How funny?! But that's what the lady @ FF told us... It's not a big deal to me anyway. I want the drinking to be rather subtle b/c of a close family member of mine who has been 'in the program' for a few years-- I care so much about this person and we are very close so out of respect I would like the drinking to be more 'subtle' (you know what I mean??)... So that's why when she told us about the policy (and the bottles and their other policies) I didn't have a problem with it... I actually never thought twice about it-- although I did think after Nicole's wedding being Land's End and FF are the same company-- perhaps, FF and Land's End allows it IF you want it... that could be. Since I did not want it anyway b/c of what I explained above I never questioned... They are great with customer service so that could very well be the reason. But let me just say I would NEVER not book a hall simply over something as small and minor as a 'no shot policy'... I mean, c'mon-- to go to an entire different establishment over that? IDK, that's someone who is VERY serious about their liquor!! lol....
People can still drink whatever type of liquor that they want to and they can still drink it with other people-- there are just no organized shot groups and like 'in your face' shot after shot-- I just thought it would be really disrespectful to the person that I mentioned who is in recovery b/c he is a very close family member. I hope people don't make a big deal out of it, still have a nice time, take it for what it is-- it's just a shot that you can't have for ONE night, drink whatever else you want and enjoy the wedding.
BTW Laura-- getting excited about the new house you are closing on in the near future-- it's coming up!!!!

Re: Shots (liquor) at the wedding?
Most places I have been to for weddings did not allow shots....The only place that did, people went overboard to the point where women were getting sick in the bathroom and they had to call an ambulance because one guest needed to get his stomach pumped....So, eventually, the bartenders refused to serve anymore liquor and it wasn't even halfway through the wedding....People were upset about this but I don't blame the place for shutting down the bar....Also, after the wedding, there were cops in the parking lot waiting to see if anyone was going to drunk dirve....Needless to say, it was the worst wedding I have ever been to.

My place doesn't allow shots and at first I was upset about it, and then I thought the same thing - people can still drink whatever they want. They can go 5 hours without shots, and if they really want straight liquor, just order something on the rocks. I've been known to do a shot or two, but it doesn't bother me that I can't at my wedding. I can always do that at the afterparty.

That's another thing to check though - the place I was at did NOT ALLOW STRAIGHT LIQUOR to be served - not on the rocks, not in any way.
They would only serve MIXED DRINKS.

Even if this is the case, I'm hoping my friends and family can get past it and deal with some ginger ale or coke mixed in I'm sure they'll find a way to get drunk without doing shots - we're Irish

sorry im crashing but Majestic Gardens does not allow shots either but u can just ask for it on the rocks (or with out) just cant say the word 'shot' due to the fact that people were getting way out of hand and ending up in the fountains
