My Bridesmaids live in several different states. I picked out my BM dresses and I figured that everyone can order their dresses in their own state.
However, I was just told by someone who works in a bridal shop that they should all be ordered from the same place b/c the colors might be slightly different b/c of the cut of fabric (or something like that). Then the BMs in different states can have them altered in their state.
Is this true? Did anyone order BM dresses from different shops?

Yes - they should be ordered from the same place all at the same time.
We're doing all different dresses, but the color and designer are the same.
The reasoning is exactly what you were told. You want all your dresses cut from the same 'ream' of cloth...so that the colors are the same. The color cobalt blue may be less blue and more silvery today - but tomorrow - the frabric may have less blue....
What my MOH did is have all her girls fill in the form and fax it back to Macy's...she picked up the dresses when they came in and shipped the out of state ones to the girls...and the local girls picked them up themselves...
For my MOH's wedding - she had 8 BM's and me. So all the local girls went into her macy's and got measured. The 4 out of state girls went to their own seamstress and got measured, filled in the forms & faxed them to the original Macy's.

I would say yes....as long as they have the name of style of dress I don't see this being a problem.

But what if something is wrong with the dress? Then they have to ship it back to NY?

They should be ordered at the same time at the same place because the dye lots are frequently slightly different. So if you want the dresses all to the same color, they should be ordered at the same time from the same place.

YES....
i only had one BM who was OOT -- i just had her call the bridal salon with her measurements.... and she had the option of having the dress shipped to herself and getting the alterations done on her own, or having the dress come into the store and coming there to get her alterations done (she did the latter).

Ditto the pps. Differing dye lots can result in color differences that are visible in photographs or even the naked eye.

I was in a bridal party last summer and we ordered ours from different places and they came out just fine!

I've been told that all BM gowns should be ordered from the same salon at the same time. However, I have been in two different weddings where bridal party lived in several states and dresses were ordered at different salons. All dresses matched.

I think they should be ordered all at the same place and at the same time to make sure the dye lot is the same or cut from the same bolt of fabric.
I have 2 OOS BMs and I was also told to ship them myself to them and they can get alterations there. They said its cheaper if I ship them myself to them.

I was in a BP where the dresses were all ordered from the same shop and they DID NOT MATCH. The dress had to be remade and the dyelot had to be recreated. It can happen.

yes thats a MUST. the di-alac [sp?] can be different if u don't. thats why they wait until all the girls are measured before they put the order thru.

I think that as long as they are made from the same designer that the color should be the same.

yes they should.. and i had a simliar problem in that my bms' aren't all from my area.. i foudn that that bridal elegance will allow them each to call in their order on their own credit card and will place it at the same time sothe dresses are cut from the same bolt of fabric..

Not necessarily, I think the whole dye lot deal is a little exaggerated. I've been in 2 weddings where all the girls ordered them from diff. places at diff. times and they were fine. If they were from diff. dye lots, you couldn't tell. The last wedding I was in they were purple and one girl got hers in FL and the rest of us got it in NY but in diff. places and I ordered mine a month or so after everyone else because I had to wait until I had the money. You'd never know.
That said, there is NO guarantee that just because they all order them together at the same time from the same place that they'll come from the same dye lot. Is that chance greater, yes. Is it guaranteed, no. Do whatever makes you feel less stressed, that's my advice.

i also heard that from a bridal shop. they said if they aren't ordered at the same place & time that the coloring could be slightly different.

They should be ordered from the same shop so they can come from the same dye lot (color). I had several girls out of state and the shop shipped the dresses to them as long as they were paid in full.
