Should FH ask

Should FH ask

So.. my mom is giving us some $ towards the wedding...

FH's mom hasn't mentioned a word about it and FH's stepmom (since he was 8) hasn't said a word either.

Is it wrong for FH to even ask if they would like to contribute to the wedding?
FH and i both know his mom has minimal $ but i feel like if she found out FH asked his stepmom and not her she would get mad.

Re: Should FH ask

Maybe he can mention it in conversation?

FH and I are in the opposite situation. His parents have said that they will give us $10,000 towards the wedding. My parents said they will 'help us out' but didn't tell us exactly what they will give us (besides my dress). FH's parents are definitely in a better financial position than mine, so I feel bad asking about it, but it makes budgeting hard.

I think it's definitely worth letting her know that they are contributing without making it seem like you are asking for the money if you know she might not have it. Give her the option of offering it first.

I dont think it's wrong if he ask...Just make sure he ask's casually if he does decide to ask them. I flat out asked FH's mom the other day if she was paying for our RD, so I dont see it as a problem!!

Personally, I don't think its apporiate to ask for a contribution. If they want to contribute they will let you know. I wasn't expecting anything from FH's said but his father and stepmother have offered. You can try to hint around the subject to see if they say anything though.

This is a tricky situation. My daddy was very kind enough to help us pay for the hall. I really didn't want him to but he insisted. FH's parents are unable to help us because of their situation and medical probs. If FH feels the time is right and thinks that they may be able to help, than have FH do it. If the time is bad for his parents, than try to avoid the question.

i wouldnt ask. but if you want to know for budgeting reasons, maybe he can bring it up in a budgeting conversation with them...so its not like he is directly asking them...but he is just curious if he can budget for more things....

considering what you mentioned earlier about the extra $5k, maybe that can be a nice way to bring it up without being so obvious.

I definately don't think that it's appropriate to ask, but thats just me. I feel like it would kind of be putting the person on the spot especially if you know that they wouldn't be able to contribute a lot anyway. Then again I don't know you FMIL maybe she wouldn't take it that way.
