I dont know much about them. I've had dogs all my life.
Are they a lot of work to take care of as kittens? you can leave them home all day while at work? Are there different kinds? Are they friendly? hahah does the litter box smell your house up?

If it's your kitten, you will still love it when it's a cat.
I wasn't allowed to have a dog in my apt when Ig ot my kitten... and I'mnot home enough now to take care of a puppy or a dog... but the best thing I ever did was get my cat. Espcially since my best friend moved out, she makes me less lonely at home
Get one!! They're so low maintenance and the bring so much to the household.

Yea, my cats pretty much do what they want. I mean I leave them home all day (right now their at my parents b/c Fh's dogs will eat them) I leave food out for them, they do poo in a litter box, but hey its a fact of life.
When they were kittens, Bella had an accident one afternoon while I was at school, and what happen was she was playing with Rocco, and the little coffee table fell on her leg. She had a pink cast on for like a month. I felt soooooooooo guilty leaving them home. But they rule the house now. I've had them for like 7 years. And they have personalities. Like bella is A $lut cat who loves men and Rocco is a sneak and steals food from your plate. But I lover them!!!

I've always had Siamese cats. They say they're the dogs of the cat world. From a website:
Not only are they very loving, active companions, these felines along with their unique feature and appearance also have a very unique personality. This intelligent pet is very people orientated, and sincerely enjoys their human companion.
These precious pets have a great tendency to talk to people whom they are affectionate with.

They are not a lot of work at all- cats really take care of themselves. All you have to do is make sure they have food and water in their dish and a place to poop. LOL!
I guess cats are like dogs- they can be really friendly, they can be anti-social, they can be downright mean, but it's all in the way you raise them. If you get a cat as a kitten and you play with it a lot, it'll be a lot friendlier growing up. Personally, I love cats now- not as much as I love dogs, but before FBIL's cat, I wasn't a fan. This cat (Dexter) has personality! LOL! Dexter lived on the first floor of my house for a year, with FBIL, and was BFF with my dog. Haha! The litter box is kinda annoying, but if you clean it with the same regularity that you would walk a dog, it'll never smell. You can even get the closed in ones so the litter isn't around the box.
I vote yes for the cat. They are definitely fun, especially as kittens.

They're not a LOT of work... and for the first couple of weeks, I left the litterbox and food in the bathroom and shut her in there... and then when I was home I let her roam around freely so she got used to the place.
My cat was bad when I first got her and she would pee NEXT to the litter... I had to try like 5 different kinds before I found one she liked. If you do decide to get a cat, just get unscented litter, btw.
I'm bad and don't scoop my litter... but I change it fully once weekly and as long as I do that it doesn't smell.
There are different breeds of cats and some are better with kids/more playful/more easygoing than others. Cats have very strong personalities. I wasn't picky about mine, I adopted her from BRooklyn Animal Foster Network so I took what they had available.

I had 2 cats that I had to leave with my ex. One I got as an adult cat and the other a kitten. They pretty much take care ofthemselves. you would be able to go away- leave food, water and a clean litter box and they will be fine. Before i got the first cat I wasnt much of a cat person (had dogs all my life) but now I love them.

I was never a cat person either - and when we got ours 5 years ago it totally changed me!!! I absolutely adore her!! She was very easy from the beginning so we just let her do her thing, but like someone else said it is good to have the kitten in a small area at first. She is very low maintenace but does demand a lot of attention when we are home - I don't think I have been able to sit down by myself over the past 5 years!! But I love her to pieces.

If you don't want a cat, don't get one just because that is what you are allowed to get where you live. My mom did this when my brother and I were little. She hated the cat for its entire life, and was going to put it to sleep last year (because he started peeing outside the litter box) but I took him to live with me instead. Just keep in mind that you will have the cat for 15+ years, so you should only get one if you REALLY want one.
That being said, I love my cat. Just make sure it is right for you.

cats **** unless they act like dogs.
the chances that they will be a nice loving affectionate pet are 1 out of approximately 67.
chances for that with a dog are 89/93

From what I've seen- dogs and cats actually get along GREAT! I don't know who started the vicious rumor that they are enemies! Just remember that if you really want a dog in the future (which, cat or no cat, I'm sure you will!) you can always add a dog to the family. Your cat won't mind.... too much.

I am not a pet person. I hate pets. but when I started dating FH I knew he had 2 cats (I call him 'that cat lady' LMAO) so they were a part of the package. since I moved in I fell in love with them. I cant imagine my life without them.
they are very low maintenance - we put out food and water and FH cleans their litter box on regular basis.
they have such distinct personalities its crazy. Seal is very soft and into cuddling, but is very mean if he doesnt want to be touched. But if he wants attention he will demand it. when FH goes to sleep he runs after him, sits next to FH on the bed and then crawls under the blanket to cuddle w/FH. Piggy hates to be hugged, but MUST sit next to u w/his bum to u. or sit on top of ur head. and when we go to sleep he starts crying cause he misses us.
ok now I'm gonna go play with them haha
