I am having my ceremony at the RH, but my cocktail hour comes first, then the ceremony, then the reception. Question? - should I appear at the cocktail hour, I feel like I want to be there but at the same time everyone will see me which will take away from that WOW when I walk down the aisle, and then everyone will want to take pics with me, which will detract from them enjoying the cocktail hour to the fullest. I don't know, what do you guys think?

Re: Should I appear at the cocktail hour?
I agree with the other ladies ... If tradition dictates that CH be before the ceremony then its probably best not to take away from that WOW HERE COMES THE BRIDE moment...
Plus you will be so busy taking pictures and having some treats of your own in the bridal suit that you might not even have time for the CH...

Re: Should I appear at the cocktail hour?
my bff is russian
she stuck to the tradition of not going to CH
and she always comments on how she missed it and never got to see it
I personally would not want to miss my CH
but I also would not want my guests to see me before ceremony
are you absolutely adamant about doing it the traditional russian way?
what if you compromised and hosted a small hospitality hour(1/2 hour) before ceremony with some appetizers and drinks
and then did it the 'american way'
it's a tough choice!

hmmmm something to think about....not sure. I was pretty set on just doing it the traditional way.

Hmm, that's a tough one. I've never heard of that for russian weddings - that's definitely interesting. I would not want to miss the cocktail hour, but I would probably skip it in this case. I wouldn't want to see FH or guests before I walk down the aisle.

Could you possibly go to the CH with a non bridal dress? So that when you put on the dress for the ceremony there will still be a wow ?
I was just about to suggest the same thing!!! : )

I think this is what I would do. I definitely would not want to miss my CH, but I also do not want anyone to see me before I walk down the aisle. Maybe you could consider doing this?
I am a de Seversky bride also, and either way, they will absolutely bring you food up to the bridal suite, so you will be able to enjoy that!

I'd skip it too bc you lose the excitement of your appearance.
My family's Russian and I'm wayy too selfish to do it that way! lol

Re: Should I appear at the cocktail hour?
I am Russian and I am absolutely not attending my CH. IMO CH in this setting is strictly for the guests to socialize with each other and eat and get into the 'weddingy mood' LOL all the food is brought to the bridal suite as is
plus during the CH is when u usually sign the Katubah which takes time
nothing that interesting happens at the CH

Re: Should I appear at the cocktail hour?
ye haha you are right. im russian too i was going to do it that way too but then decided not to lol every russian wedding i wernt to structured like this bride was never present. I would honestly not appear if it were me because like you said it takes the wow factor away IMO.

That's how Russian weddings are structured...every wedding I've ever been to has this set up. Guests get to eat/drink and then can sit through the ceremony being content, not groggy bc they're hungry. It actually works out really well.
