Should I be offended

Should I be offended

My husband and I were married back in sept 2002 and my cousin who is engaged was invited to my shower and wedding. She came to both. Now she is getting married in may and I just rec'd her invite to her shower for april 6th. On the envelope in red it read: Michelle

Below it was my address. So no maiden last name nor married last name. Don't you think that is very rude? I would have even accepted my maide last name!

So would you go to the shower? What would you guys do?

Keep in mind that it might have just been a mistake. And a mistake that she might not have even made because more than likely she did not actually print the enveopes for her shower. I would still go.

Maybe it was just a mistake. Likely she didn't write out the invites - maybe whoever is throwing it for her totally forgot to put it on. I think I'd think it was weird, but, I'd go anyway.

Maybe she left it blank and meant to ask someone and forgot and mailed it without checking? You know how crazy it gets during wedding planning/shower planning, etc! I do tend to give people the benefit of the doubt, sometimes to a fault, but maybe in this case it really was just an oversight!!

She probably didnt know it and wrote your first name on the outside of the envelope then moved on to the next one and was probably going to get it later and she forgot...

I do that and I have forgotten... I hope no one was mad at me. It wasnt malicious

I don't see a reason to be offended. It sounds like an innocent mistake. Go and have fun!

Re: Should I be offended

I got an invitation to FH's cousin's shower adressed to me with FH's mom's last name, not even FH's last name. At the shower I told the cousin my last name and FH's last name, so she would know.

We just received the thank you - addressed to FH with his mom's last name-still different from his name-and to me with my own last name. When they get my wedding invitation, I hope they know who its from!

Or maybe she sent out the invitations just to first names to make it seem more friendly/personal.

Whatever the explanation, I don't think it justifies refusing to go to the shower.

She probably forgot your new last name and thought it was rude to put your maiden name. Or she thought it would be more personal just listing your first name on the invite. I think that you should definitely go to her shower as she attended yours and I'm sure there's an explanation.

I wouldn't be offended. I would figure that she didnt send them out herself and who ever did (MOH?) dosent know your last name.

my point being she talks to my mom all the time so she had pleanty of oppty to ask. She always could have put my maiden name.

Plus she didn't invite one of our aunts and invited all the others.

Re: Should I be offended

Seems like she is not really a person that pays attention to details!!!

She's throwing herself a shower? If not, maybe whoever is didn't know your new name or just sent them out 'informal'.

Re: Should I be offended

Seems like a mistake or just not paying attention to details. IMHO, she should have asked around for your married name. 'Hey I'm having a bridal shower and my MOH and BM are organizing the shower and needs full names, address, etc.. I would like to invite XXX, but I'm not quite sure of her last name. Would you know it? What's the correct spelling, etc.?' A phone call like this would save a lot of frustration and agravation.

I probably would attend but call her up and bring this to her attention. I'm sure she does not like getting an invite with just her first name only. IMHO, getting an invite with just first name is rude and not proper ediquete and totally informal. Lacks attention to detail and totally disorganized! Everybody's got a last name, it's like an entire generation gone without one but just a poor oversight careless error that can be easily preventable by asking first.
