Should I be offended?

Should I be offended?

So FH's Mom IM'd me yesterday and told me her ex-husband (FH's Dad) is sick. Apparently it could be cancer. I asked FH why he didnt tell me. He said he didnt want to hear my rude comments. Ok, I do hate his Dad for VERY good reason. But I am not THAT cruel...I wouldnt wish death on him! Ok, maybe I have...but when it's actually serious...I would never be so cruel. Should I be insulted that FH thinks I would respond like that???

maybe FH is still processing the information himself. maybe he just needed sometime before he wanted to really discuss it (good or bad).

even so, i think i may be insulted myself...but when it comes to family dynamics, sometimes people just need some time.

now, if he sat on this information for WEEKS AND MONTHS, then, yes, i would think there is an issue...

thats a rough situation. i think maybe you should make it clear to FH that in a situation like this of course you will be there for FH & his family, no matter what has happened in the past.

I wouldn't be b/c I know what its like to be in that situation. Your FH probably doesn't want to bother you or knows your feelings and just doesn't want to involve you.

Fh's mother is always sick and bothering us. When its serious, of course I care and try to help, but half the time he doesn't tell me b/c he is embarassed. And he just doesn't want to get me involved bc he doesn't want me to see that side.

Your FH could be feeling the same way....men tend to bottle up their feelings and maybe he is just having a difficult time with this situation. The best you can do is just be there for him.

Maybe he's just hurt from finding out the information. Just give him some time...and then show him that you're there for him no matter what happens with his father.

I'm going to agree with Little J and hope that when I post something like this about my FMIL and/or FFIL you gals will remind me to follow my own advice.

Hang in there.

I think def just give him time. He will come around. Maybe it is hard for him to talk about out loud. Dont be upset with him or at least try not too during this hard time.

i dont think you should be insulted...

hes probably just hurting & doesnt know how to deal at this moment..

also, maybe he didnt think you would take it as seriously as he is taking it since its not your dad, yano?

but, i dont think you should be insulted..it was probably just an excuse so he didnt have to talk about it before he was ready to.
