Should I block hotel rooms

I am trying to figure out what I should do about blocking rooms...FH said they dont need rooms for oot guest but on my side I may need but not sure because dont realy know if the ppl I am inviting from oot are really coming maybe a few but not all. My dad said that maybe do not block rooms but send a card of some hotels around just incase they are coming in. Also I am getting married on a sunday and how would I know if ppl would wanna come in for the weekend or just sun and what if i only block rooms for the sunday....

from what I have read, some hotels will reserve rooms for you without you having to commit to a minimum and be responsible for the price. If that is the case, definately go ahead and do it!

However, if they make you commit to filling rooms, I woudl think twice.

I think the Holiday Inn in Farmingdale area has the friendly reservation policy. I know FH has some papers on it, let me know if you want me to double check it.

I see your getting married at Crest Hollow, the 4 Points Sheraton in Plainview is really close, right on the service road and there is no finanical committment on your part if you block rooms. Maybe you could try that as an option so you wouldn''t be stuck paying for rooms if your block didn't fill up.
IF you block for the Sunday I am sure they could get the same rate for Saturday if there was vacancies.

Re: Should I block hotel rooms

i blocked rooms and had a sunday wedding but we knew how many OOT we were inviting and did a guess on how many would show. Also we had a after party at the hotel so that made it that family wanted to stay (even if they were local) to hang out with us and the family who traveled.

So we had about 15 OOT guests invited only 6 said yes and stayed at the hotel and we had to guarantee 10 room and we had 12 people stay.

We had a lot of OOT guests and blocked rooms. It doesn't cost you anything. Just block the rooms. If they aren't used, they get released.

I don't see any downside to reserving a block of rooms.

People may also want to stay over somewhere after the wedding...FH and I are planning to continue partying at the hotel we pick....a lot of our friends are also staying there

Most hotels let you block rooms at no cost... if they don't book prior to 1 month before the wedding, they get released. No biggie. We blocked 10 rooms and only ended up booking 1! So no harm in doing it just in case...
