Should I bother with the Save the Dates?

What do you guys think? Should I bother with sending out the save the date cards? Most of my close friends will be getting an email soon directing them to a wedding website we are building (I'll post it when it is done). In regards to my parents friends they are hearing about the date from word of mouth. What do you guys think?

just remind anyone you tell to spread the word to family.

i only sent STDs to out of town people and close family... so if those people know already, then it probably isnt necessary...

We are only going to send them out really to give people hotel information.

We did them because we are getting married on a holiday weekend - Presidents Week where a lot of people with kids go away as well as teachers - I am a teacher.

I think it's entirely up to you. I'm sending them out to everyone.

IMO, if your wedding is local and so are you guests, I think they're a waste....

I decided to save money by not sending STDs. We are not getting married on a holiday weekend, the majority of our guests are local and anyone who is not local already knows about it through word of mouth.

I didn't send STD's either. I just made sure to tell people and had them spread the word. If you're looking to cut costs I woulnd't bother with them.

i am anti-save the date. at first i thought they were cute, but after watching several brides i work with obsess over this small fact, i decided aganist them.

i am only for them if you are getting married over a holiday weekend, which you are not. word of mouth is fine

I will say that I had a few people thank me for sending them out. They are all going away the day after the wedding. I would have missed them terribly at the wedding if they werent able to come!

We sent them out mainly because our wedding is right after the holidays. We sent them out 7 months or so beofre our wedding date.

I think that STD are always appreciated, but only necessary if you are having your wedding on a holiday or have a large percentage of OOT guests. Approx. half of my guests are OOT, so we sent out a STD with all of the hotel info so that they can make their travel arrangements in advance.

We did...just so people have a reminder of when it is. I got them for very cheap on VistaPrint.com and then made the cards to attach them to.

we did, holiday weekend with MANY our of towners /staters

and actually we have someone who got the save the date and wrote my mother a card and said she is so sorry that she cant come, but she wanted us to know as early as possible... my mom is sad she cant ome (it is family) but now at least we know it is an entire set of family members and she can invite someone who she would have otherwise had to cut due to $$

you can get them for cheap- i would do them

We were going to but then changed our minds. I feel that through word of mouth most of the people who will be invited already know. (And most of the ones that may not know the exact day I don't care if they come or not!!)

We did just because we are getting married on Memorial Day weekend....A lot of people make plans for BBQ's and what not, so we wanted to give people a head's up

I think it's totally up to you if you want to send them or not.

I definitely agree if you are getting married on a holiday weekend that it's a good idea to send them out.

I sent them out because I just wanted to I really loved the idea, plus I'm getting married on a Friday and I just figured I'd give everyone a heads up to leave work early and what not.

I have heard nothing but GREAT things about my STD magnets from relatives on my side as well as FH's.
I'm glad it was a hit!
