I think if you are going to wear them on different hands then it probably doesnt matter all that much...I think you should just go with whatever you like the best.

In my own personal opinion - i do think they should match - but it's entirely YOUR call - if you like the contrast - that's what matters!!!

actually I really don't think so. My sister has a white gold e-ring, and a platinum wedding band and it doesn't look any different - except on the underneath - white gold tends to yellow (like mine is) and platinum doesn't.
I'm torn about this - I don't like my yellowing wg ring but I think white gold is shinier than plat.... and plat i think dulls and looks scratched more easily

I'm surprised though that you're not wearing them together. Why not?

i am kind of leaning toward platinum too - it definitely doesn't matter, just see how it looks with your ring.

The two metals will match perfectly now.......however, platnum and white gold age differently over time. Platnum becomes darker naturally with age and white gold can start to wear so the yellow shows through. You can get white gold redipped (small cost) and it will look brand new again, but if you put this brand new shiny silver next to an older darker platnum, it may not match perfectly.
No idea exactly how long or how different the shades will be - this is information that came from my jeweler.

I have heard this too -- they might look the same initially but over time the platinum will dull slightly and the white gold will yellow slightly, and when you redip it will look brighter than platinum. Basically, you will see a difference between the two.

Yup, white gold does change colors over time! Platinum stays 'white' while white gold changes to a yellow tone (white gold is just yellow gold mixed with nickel and rhodium). ALso if you wear them on the same hand BAD IDEA! Platinum is softer than gold and willl scratch!

my e-ring is plat. but I just don't think we can afford a plat. band. The difference is like $600....
So I was wondering how bad it would look.
Apparently, most people think it should match, so maybe we should just suck it up....????

I've heard the same thing. I know $600 is a LOT of money right now, but you will be wearing this for life..and it might just be worth the investment. Try to get your jeweler to give you a better price!

I actually talked to my jeweler about the same thing this weekend. He told be to stick to the same. My e-ring is platinum and he told me there would definitely be a differnce with gold. He urges the same material, even if on a different hand. It's your personal preference though!

FSIL has a platinum e-ring and a white gold wedding band and when she wears them together you can totally see the difference.....so she warned FH that if he got a platinum e- ring he should get a platinum band as well so they match perfectly - so that is what we are going to do!

I don't think it matters, esp. if you're not wearing them on the same hand.

My sister has a platinum engagement ring and a white gold band - she wears them together and I can't even tell. I wouldn't have known unless I asked!

I think it should be the same...I have a platinum ering and when it's next to some of my friend's erings who are white gold- there is an absolute difference. I would say match - but up to you especially since you are wearing them on different hands.
