My wedding is booked for December 22, 2007. I love Christmas and wanted it close to the holiday, but people are telling me I shouldn't have it the weekend right before Christmas, that people will be too busy preparing and doing things... What do you think?

Re: Should I change my date?
Coming from a huge italian family who cooks for 15 weeks before xmas eve... I agree.. It's too close to xmas... BUT in retrospect, I also come from the same family who all attended my cousin's THURSDAY afternoon ceremony & reception... They'll show up no matter what.
I probably just confused you even more than you were.. Good luck!

Re: Should I change my date?
I can only speak for myself, and if I got an invitation for a wedding that close to x-mas...I would still go. It is close to x-mas, but people that want to be there are going to go no matter what.
I am not sure what to tell you, other than do what you want, and what will make you happy. Good luck and congrats!

Re: Should I change my date?
as a girl who has a hard time every year getting people together for her Dec. 9th birthday, ANY December date is hard... much less 3 days before Christmas!! I would rethink it! I wouldn't want you disappointed with a lot of no's!
The people really close to you, of course, will be there no matter what... but it's a VERY stressful time of year to fit a wedding in! Think how stressed YOU'll (or YULE!! lol) be planning a wedding SOOO close to Christmas, too!
You can very easily keep the Christmas theme (which I LOVE, by the way... my November wedding favors are Christmas ornaments! FM me if ya want to see... I'll send you the website!) and have it a few weeks earlier to give you and your guests some breathing room!
You can also always do the opposite and do a Christmas in July! That way for the rest of your life, you're not jipped (sp?) out of anniversary presents 'cause it's so close to Christmas! It's ALL about the presents!

Renee, I'd think that a lot of people would have the time off anyway and come...besides, most of your family is around here! You silly girl. And you do have lots of time to get the word out.

Re: Should I change my date?
Without a doubt a think you should change your date! I think 2 days before Christmas is ridiculous! People are already preparing for Christmas, leaving for vacation and have a million and one things to do. I understand that yes, your wedding is very important and can't pick a date around others people's schedules, but I think Christmas is one of those days that should be taken into consideration.

i would personally pick the weekend AFTER...and still do the xmas theme..on new years maybe..or 12/29 whenever it falls..that weekend before, i would go to that wedding, but id be honestly alil broke, and alil tired, and id enjoy it MUCH more after!! only you can know how big of a deal this will be to your family!!

Re: Should I change my date?
I would go if I was invited, but I can see a lot of people being annoyed by that, b/c it is such a hectic time of year and many people will have family in for the holidays and other obligations. And, as another point my FH made when we were looking, (don't rip my head off...I know it sounds obnoxious)people may not be as generous so close to xmas when credit card bills and what have you are rolling in. I know, I know...it's not about the gifts, blah, blah, but it is a consideration. It's really up to you...if it's an important, sentimental date, go for it. If not, I would change it.

I wouldn't go because I don't live on Long Island. I don't get very much time to see my family and I really don't want to take away from my Christmas vacation to travel to someone's wedding.
With that being said, do you have a bunch of out of town guests? If they're mostly local then I don't think it's as big of a deal.

See I most likely wouldn't go. I'm so busy at that time of year. Bills are piled high and family is visiting like crazy. I'm lucky if I have a moment to myself.

Re: Should I change my date?
I think the only concern with alot of people is money. They might be in debt from Christmas shopping and all that and might not have the cash to give to the couple. I went to a wedding 3 days after Christmas and I didn't really mind but people did complain about it (Maybe not to the Bride and Groom directly but in general), especially the out-of-towners who had to book a hotel room on top of giving a gift, etc.

Re: Should I change my date?
I think you should consider changing the date as well. Christmas is a busy time and two days before is just too close to the holiday. I think many people would still go, as would I, but I would prefer it earlier in the month. I would also suggest switching to before Christmas rather than later in December because I am 'Christmased out' by Christmas and broke as well.

Re: Should I change my date?
If you are getting married to celebrate marrying your best friend and you don't care how many people are going to be there then by all means get married on that date. If you care about 'presents' as someone pointed out and are worried about materials things then I would change my date. People are going to complain. You are getting married near a holiday. Try finding a babysitting a few days before Christmas. I just know I wouldn't attend and I think most people wouldn't and maybe they won't complain to your face, but secretly they are complaining.
