should i change time of my wedding?

my cocktail hour is from 7:30-8:30pm...reception is 8:30pm-1:30am..im afraid people are going to leave early and miss out on viennese but that means i would have to call all my vendors and tell them of the time switch and get new contracts...but what if one of them makes a mistake or dont change it and then something goes wrong? my mom said people will leave early regardless...what should i do?

I had my wedding at those exact times and everything was fine. By the time I got to the viennese hour it looked like it was hit hard, so I doubt many people missed it!

A good option would be to provide 'to go' containers for the viennese treats, that way if people do want to leave early they can take some goodies to go.

I got chinese takeout containers and put a little tag with a ribbon on the handle with our names and wedding date.

I think people will leave early will leave early regardless. Those who want to stay will :) Our wedding ended late too, I think 1:00am, and most people were there for viennese but started to head out at like 12:30. Is VH in the reception room? Maybe you can push Viennese up and then ask the RH to clear it out to the lobby. If it is in the cocktail hour room it shouldn't be a problem pushing it up and then having people who want to party still come back to the dance floor.

Also, if your wedding is on a Friday I do not suggest pushing it up. Rush hour traffic on LI is always horrendous.

I think your mom is right, changing the cocktail by a half hour or so will not prevent people from leaving early unfortunately. Your wedding is on a Friday night, right? So your cocktail hour start gives people time to get ready if they choose to go to work that day. How early would you push it back? I think if it's for 30 min don't stress it. If you are thinking of doing an hour earlier it might be something to consider.

I was wondering the same thing!! We are doing ceremony on site and our CH is from 8-9 and reception ends at 1AM on July 3rd and I have to say the major reason was the horrid LI traffic and I would imagine people are going to go to work that day so i was trying to be as considerate as possible. I am still debating whether we should do VH also....some places add the extra hour on to the event, ours does not. I just hate to think of all that wasted food!!!!! but i love the idea of 'to go' containers (:
