Should I have a band/ DJ?

Should I have a band/ DJ?

I will have a wedding in Palm House. The total capacity of the venue is 300 with dance floor. But I only have 125 guests. Honestly, I don't care much about music, as long as they have some background music. I am wondering if I should have a band or DJ. Do you know how much $$ difference?

A lot of people at the wedding will probably want to dance, so I'd go with something good.

Personally, I much prefer a band, but DJs run less expensive.

It's all personal preference.

I like to dance and can't imagine myself getting down on the dance floor to a band but that is ME.

I know tons of people who think dj's aren't classy.

It's really up to you.

I'm going to splurge on good live classical musicians for the ceremony and cocktail hour but use a dj to play background music and dance music for the reception.

Dj's are always cheaper than bands.

you may not think music is important but it really is! Food and music is what ppl will remember! Bands are going to run more $$ but thats what i had my heart set on.....so we are doing that!

I totally agree with this! Music is so important. Your guests will remember if the band is awesome and they will have an awesome time dancing. I recommend Soul Revival. We just booked them a few weeks ago and they are great! They came highly recommend to me from a bride on here and I can't wait for them to play. Soul Revival Link I hope this helps!

Music makes the mood, and the food is just as important - People want to enjoy themselves

A good band sounds like the radio, but adds a lot of personality and live energy to the room

We are having a band but it totally depends on your budget

I'm using Frank from FM Entertainment. He's a DJ. I know that there is a huge significance in price between the two. I believe a couple thousand dollars.

My personal preference is a band. There is just such an energy there. It could be a few thousand dollar difference though.

I love both-so I really don't have a preference-but DJs are much less expensive.

A band is worth everypenny and have such a great variety - we used Frankin Wayne's VISION and they were the BOMB!

They had a repetoire of everything from Beyonce to Frnak Sinatra and it all sounded great. My fav song of the night that was such a surprise was KISS by Prince.../. SO FUN!

Good luck

Go with a band! There is nothing like live music at a wedding. Someone made a comment about not seeing people getting down to a band..........NOT TRUE. That so did NOT happen at my wedding. My dance floor was packed all night! We used The Mystic, they are amazing. People still comment on the music at my wedding to this day! You see DJ's everywhere, birthday parties, sweet 16's, go high class for your wedding and hire a band!

Re: Should I have a band/ DJ?

This question gets asked a lot and I always say the same thing: personal preference and of course, you need to consider your budget.

I have been to weddings were there was a GREAT DJ and we had a BLAST-- and then I have been to weddings and showcases where there was an amazing band and we also had a fabulous time! I think it is more about SONG selection. My cousin had a great band at her wedding (Arcadia-- GREAT!!) but her song selection was like she chose from 'The Weather Channel-- Greatest Hits'... it was NOT good!!

So the point of that is: whether you choose a band or a DJ, people will dance and have a good time if your song selection is on par and if your band or DJ is good at what they do. There is no 'one is better than the other'-- it's all about your preference.

My preference, since you asked, is a band for my wedding. That doesn't mean I would have never chosen a DJ-- I just happened to fall in love with Heart & Soul (Franklin Wayne Music). The price was right... and BTW someone said DJ's can run just as much and they are absolutely right-- it all depends on WHAT you get... Anyway, I just loved Heart & Soul b/c of the energy, the voices and their talent-- if you close your eyes you would really THINK it was the real artists... I'm a vocalist myself so good voices were VERY important to me. Even when I see them at showcases-- I can't help but want to get up and dance (I do try and control myself b/c I would be the ONLY one dancing LOL)...

So, if you want to take a look at a great band: Heart & Soul is the one that I happen to love love love--- I also like a few of Franklin Wayne's other bands (like Vision with a horn section!! yay!) and I really like Times Square Orchestra too... For DJ's I LOVED Tommy's Tunes-- the best wedding I ever went to had them for a DJ-- they were FANTASTIC. I also saw Body Rock at a showcase and they were great.

Well, I hope that helps you a bit. Here is the link for Heart & Soul incase you are interested. They run about $6,400 or so... depending on your month, day and year (stuff like that will make it vary a bit). Good luck honey, go to a lot of showcases and see a lot of different things and go with your gut-- you'll know right away which one is for YOU!

Re: Should I have a band/ DJ?

I personally am going with a DJ (Starlight Express) b/c a band was a few thousand more and it is just not affordable for me.

If I could afford it, I would have gone with a band called Rhapsody. They are excellent! I just saw them perform at a wedding over the summer.

HTH!!

I like them both. We went with a DJ because of money. But I just went to a wedding over the summer that had both DJ and Band and it was the best ever. A good band can be costly. If you can afford it go for it.

A DJ or Band can make or break you day. Besides the food i think the entertainment is the next most important thing. I prefer a DJ in my option, cause me and my fiance like to get alittle nutty and you can do that ealsily with a DJ. but theres nothing wrong with a band. Just be sure you get refferences first for which ever you decide.

GOOD LUCK!
