Ok, our wedding is on Sunday, July 6, 2008. Being that it's right after the July 4th weekend, which happens to fall on a Friday next year, I thought that it would be necessary for us to send STDs to our guests. FH feels different and says that we could use that money towards something else and suggests that we only send out invites. My thing is, with July 4th falling on a Friday people may plan a long weekend trip and return Sunday evening, which would not be good for us.
So, should I send them or is FH right when he says that we can use the money towards something else.

Re: Should I listen to FH or not
i think it's in your best intrest to send them if you're getting married during a holiday weekend. i got 100 magnets from vistaprint for $22 and people loved them. you don't have to spend a ton of money on them.
you can even send postcards, vistaprint has a special where you can get 100 for free.

i think that's a great idea. I do think its important for everyone to know to save the date, but how you let them know is totally up to you. An email to close friends and family that you really want there is OK. I love the idea of putting it in holiday cards!

Re: Should I listen to FH or not
you don't necessarily have to, but i would because its a holiday weekend..but i wanted to because i too am getting married on a friday..so i thought it would be a nice thing to do to let the guests, especially out of towners know in advance so they could take the day off from work

Re: Should I listen to FH or not
I think u should send them. Holiday weekends tend to get planned way in advance especially at the start of the summer. U can get STD that don't cost much. FH and I designed ours and are printing them at Staples on cardstock. Its only going to cost about $60 all together to put together and send.

Re: Should I listen to FH or not
We were struggling with the same thing, but ended up getting STDs because we found a great price. Vistaprint.com had a great sale and we designed our own postcard and rushed delivery for just $15 (without rush and without designing it ourself, it would have been $10 cheaper!). WIth postage, the grand total was $36, so we felt that we could go wrong.

I would definitely send them, people always plan vacations and day trips around then. We're getting married in August and sending them out. You can get them cheap online.

Re: Should I listen to FH or not
I would definetly send them. My brother didnt do that at his labor day weekend wedding and only 4 aunts and uncles came from my dads side. It was sad cause almost all the guests were from her side of the family. I have already had people say things came up around my date but they were happy they knew before hand when it was, hopefully to attend. (I hope)

Re: Should I listen to FH or not
Why don't you just make save the date cards on your computer? You can just buy 4x6 hard stock paper and make something up in microsoft word... You can even make them look like postcards- that way you dont even need to buy envelopes, and you only have to use the cheaper post card stamps....

Re: Should I listen to FH or not
If money is an issue, I would do an e-mail save the date, or just tell people personally. To be honest with you, I have never really paid attention to the save the dates that I got, because most of the people told me when there wedding was ahead of time in person or over e-mail, and I mark it on my calendar, or etc.... I don't think it's worth it of you can put the money towards something else.
