Should I offer to pay half?

Original post by GettinHutched

Not sure if any of you saw my post from yesterday. There's a girl having her ceremony at my church before me. She offered to leave her flowers for my ceremony incase I needed them (which also makes it convenient for her since no one will have to take them away). She very nicely said 'so you don't waste money on something that's already there.'

But my mom told me when she got married- a gazillion years ago - she split the cost with the girl before her.

Hmmm I didn't get the impression she wanted money. I can only imagine what it cost, and ceremony flowers were not in my budget. What should I do? Ask her the cost and offer half?

OR....just give her a 'gift'? Meaning like $100-200 or something?

I am SO GRATEFUL she's willing to do this cuz it was bothering me that I didn't include it in my flower budget...but I'm cheap when it comes to flowers.

TIA!

I would suggest a thank you card and either $100 or a $100 gift card for BB&B would be sufficient.

I think a small gift of gratitute would be a pretty nice gift.

That is sooo nice!! I would send her a thank you gift and if you can find out where shes registered, maybe buy and have it sent to her, something thats left that shes probally not going to get now.

I think a thank you note and a gift (I'd personally spend around $75) is perfect. That was really nice of her to offer!

As an act of kindness, I think you should pay her half. It is very considerate of her to share the flowers w/ you. You should clarify with her first that she won't need the flowers for the reception also. I know I'm having flowers moved from the ceremony site to the reception site....so just double check. But I would definitely contribute something for her generosity.

I agree..... and tara, my florist only charged about $150.00 for the two large floral arrangements for the church... so $75.00 - $100.00 should be plenty.

Thank you all so much!

I talked to my aunt, and she said if I gave anything I shouldn't give more than $50. But after I told her what she said in the email, she said I don't have to give anything.

A gift does sound like a good idea! And thanks for telling me what the usual ceremony flowers go for- I had no idea!

Thanks everyone!!!

Think just $50 is good or is that chincy? I'm not sure I want to give a gift...I would think money is more useful, no?

I emailed her and asked her where she's registered just incase.

I'm so HAPPY about this...now I don't have to feel bad about not getting flowers for the ceremony...they're already done for me!

I don't like $50....I think you're better off doing nothing then.....$50 might make her resentful of how much she is actually spending. How about a gift certificate to a restaurant in the area?

I thought $50 sounded like nothing too..until the girls told me some of their arrangements only cost $150....

If I do give a gift certificate- for how much then?

Why dont you send her a gift certificate to a really nice restaurant like Paces in Port Jefferson, get it for about $150.00 and include a heart felt thank you to both of them. Send it right after you come home from your honeymoon, this way when she gets back from her honeymoon, it will be a wonderful surprise for them to get in the mail and it will be a great way for the New Married Couple to start off there New life together.
This is just a thought & I hope it helps a bit. Its something I would do. Good luck, whatever you do, they will appreciate..

I would do the gift, this way it is kind of in return for the gift of flowers she is giving you! That is the way I would look at it.

That's really nice of her to offer that!

I think giving her a $75-100 check or a gift of equal value is a nice gesture. That's what I would do.

if she's not asking for money then you don't need to split the cost, however, you should give her something as an appreciation but don't go crazy.
