My parents are having a casual, outdoor e-party for us this weekend. I was wondering what the etiquette was regarding whether to open gifts in front of guests or not. I would rather open them in private and not draw attention to the fact that we are getting gifts, since we are just excited to be celebrating with our guests.
Would love some advice from my fellow '05 brides!

I would wait to get home and open them with my FH.

We did not open them in front of our guests. A few of our guests did not get us gifts so I did not want to make anyone feel uncomfortable.

I would wait to open them. Save that for the bridal shower and have fun partying!

we just had ours in June...we waited until the guests left to open our gifts...our parents stayed behind to watch, and so did some of the bridal party....we wanted to enjoy the party....i agree that you should leave that for the bridal shower

We opened it at the party. It was a lot of fun doing it.

I was wondering that too. My e-party is in Aug. at a resturant and I'd prefer not to open gifts b/c I don't think everyone will be giving a gift and I think that's awkard then.

We did it but late, when there was mostly immediate family left.

Pre-con Martha says it is not proper ettiquette to open gifts at an eparty because not all guests will bring gifts. We may want gifts (cash please) but it is not required of guests to bring them.

Ours is at the end of the month and everything I read said to wait to open them becuase it is 'optional for the guests to bring gifts' let me know how the party goes.

Re: Should I open presents at E-party or wait?
The party was so much fun. We had perfect weather and about 50 guests under a tent in my parent's backyard. We waited to open the gifts, which was definitely the right thing to do because we got some envelopes as well as gifts.
I am going to try to attach some pictures from the party, but haven't done this before, so bear with me!
The first pic shows me and Jon with my parents, then a pic of the appetizers, then a pic of us cutting a cake decorated with sea shells
I would wait. We opened them (becuase the majority of our vocal friends pressures us) and I wished we hadn't. While we got a number of wrapped gifts we also got a lot of cash & checks. How do you show people what you got or tell them or seem as excited as with a present?
It was tough so I just got REALLY into the cards - it was so pathetic but hillarious to my FI & friends - by the end of the night I hard this group of women saying 'boy she really loves her cards, i've never known anyone that thinks so highly of greeting card!'
