Should the gov't lift the airplane cell phone ban?

I would say no- safety concerns aside, if I had to sit next to someone yammering on their phone, I would go nuts.

I agree. Completely. When I lived in Boston, I frequently took the train to and from NY, and I was wishing there was a cell phone ban on the train! (there is a quiet car, but sometimes it's impossible to find) Unbelievable how people can talk forever without any consideration for those around them.

what the difference of somone talking on the phone rather then talking face to face with another person that is right next to them?

are you gonna make them be quiet?

I would rather them lift the ban for laptops & blackberries but not for cell phones. Cell phones are such an intrusion into everyone else's lives.
If you are important enough that you need to make phone calls from a plane, you are more than likely important enough to be carrying a blackberry or laptop!

It is more likely that they will talk more...calling more and more people...access!

Just like in a restaurant...IMO it is rude to talk on a cell phone...Doesn't mean that you have to have the person stop talking with the person next to them

No, but at least there's a possibility that you could join the conversation. Plus, people tend to speak more quietly when carrying on a conversation with a person on a plane. I've noticed that alot of people tend to yell into cell phones. That would drive me nuts on a plane.

Also, it's a quality of life thing if you ask me. It's already bad enough that you can't walk into say a dunkin donuts and everybody on line isn't on their cell phone and trying to order at the same time. It's just so rude!

Ditto, I HATE seeing people carrying on full conversations when someone is waiting on them in a store. I feel like it is so disrespectful to the worker. One of my biggest pet peeves. I have a lot of cell phone related pet peeves.....

Well, a restaurant is differernt... you there to eat which is known (well, should be). a plane is just a method of transportation. people conduct business and whatever else may need to be done.

if people talk to loudly, regardless i would tell them to talk softer espically kids yelling all day in a plane

I definitely think cellphones should be banned on planes!! what is sooooo important that can't wait??? Some people will say, oh just in case of an emergency...etc..but if there's an emgcy or whatever, you can't do anything until you land ANYWAY!!!!

Yes, but I am not stuck next to a person in a restaurant for 6 hours! I think cell phones are far worse than talkers. When I used to take the LIRR, people talking never bothered me as much as cell phones. I think there is something about the pauses in between, when the person on the other end is talking, that make it harder for me to tune out the cell phone users.

A plane is a method of transportation, but not everyone uses it to conduct business. I am usually on vacation and I am trying to relax, read or sleep.
