So I have been looking up Italian ceremony traditions for my side and I found one, but I am not sure about it. After the wedding ceremony, the couple shatters a glass or vase -- and does their best to pulverize it, since the number of pieces represents the amount of years they’ll stay happily married.

Re: Should we do it?
is this at the ceremony site or the reception? regardless, i'd make sure they allows that ... if you're shattering it in a 'public' location, it could be dangerous (what if your guest takes their shoes off and steps on a shard?)

Ok, point taken. Thank you, it's something I did not consider.

I don't see why not, its almost like the jewish 'breaking of the glass' where they take a glass and wrap it in fabric and step on it link to explinations
I totally agree with the last post! Traditions are great and like she said you can always wrap it in a fabric to prevent others from getting hurt

Ren - you added pics!!!! yay!!!!!!
anywho - my FH and are both from OTB italian parents and i've never heard of this breaking the vase tradtition. not to say it doesn't exist. but yeah, check to see if its allowed. usually when you break the glass in jewish ceremonies, its wrapped up on a bloth of some sort so the glass doesn't really fly all over the place. i don't think you can wrap up the vase, when i read about it, it doesn't seem like your supposed to.
why not stick with the italian confetti? lol

I've never heard of that! I think that's soooo cool. I would do it! U don't have to get a huge vase, and wrap it!
