Should you trust a vendor that works from home?

Should you trust a vendor that works from home?

i made an appointment with a florist in bayside that works out of her garage -- i showed up and the house was DARK. so i called and she said that since i didn't call to confirm the day before she didn't think i was coming.

1) she never said i had to confirm
2) i would be OK with rescheduling then if she thought i wasn't coming, but....

she HUNG UP ON ME!

the only reason i called her in the first place is b/c she did my friend's wedding in 04/02.

just for the fact that she hung up on you, would be reason enough for me not to use her. It seems like she doesn't care if she gets your business...

I dont know if I would be able to trust someone like that. Her business tactics just dont seem right

There are thousands of reputible florists...go somewhere else where they will treat you like a person who is giving them business...

i wouldn't count out all vendors who work from home, it sounds like this lady has issues though. i would look elsewhere.

oh absolutely -- i would never use her now, but i was just shocked that someone would throw away business like that. and only after 2 phone calls -- one to make the appointment and the one last night.

That sounds just strange and I wouldn't trust her. The trust has nothing to do with her working out of her home but the unprofessional attitude you mentioned. I used a vendor (on this site) who works from her home and she was terrific!

There is nothing wrong with working out of a home, but i agree her work ethics are not right. First off, before she assumed you are not coming, she should have called you. and to just hang up, no way and I going to chace a vendor. just like any other business, check for things like business insurance.

I agree, there is nothing wrong with working from home. But her attitude and actions are just wrong and for that I wouldn't trust her. Why didn't SHE call you to confirm???

I wouldn't throw out seeing other vendors that work from home because of this. I am using four vendors that work from home (three that are off of this board) and I have had no problems with either of them.

This woman has bad business practices. There are plenty of other florists that you can visit. Do a search on the boards and you will find quite a few vendors that girls have been super satisfied with. I would recommend seeing Flower Michelle. John is awesome!

thanks for the suggestions. from reading what everyone's written, i agree that there is nothing wrong with vendors who work from home -- its just an unfortunate case for me where this woman didn't do the right thing.

I wouldn't be concerned about the working from home part, but assuming an appointment isn't on unless the client calls to confirm is unprofessional.

Unless you really loved the work she did for your friend, I would look elsewhere.

I think that working from home is OK if you are professional. That lady wasn't professional and I would not use her if I were you. Sorry she hung up on you. She better start acting like a businesswoman if she wants to keep her customers.

Same here!

I think it was her responsibility to call YOU to confirm the appointment.

If she handled herself professionally and made a good presentation, I wouldn't have qualms about using someone that worked from their home.

I would look elsewhere. My invite lady (Rebecca from Favorite Things Invites) works out of her home. I can see that as a home based business- I can't see a florist as being a home based business.

I agree with the ladies here. This woman ain't worth it!

My DJ works from his home but he has an office set up and it's really nice.

I guess you have to feel out your vendors.

I know I met one florist who's shop turned me off. It's all how comfortable you feel.

actually a friend of mine has used a home based florist, someone in Huntigton and her flowers were AMAZING!!!!!

She used them for her wedding and a surprise party that she threw for her mom. Just think, you save $$ because they don't have overhead...but the flowers were just amazing. I'll probably use them myself.

FM me if you want more info

I don't think that a vendor working out of their home means they are no good. Imagine Studios work out of their home and they are very good at what they do. In this instance this woman is to be judged by that. Then again her work could be awesome.

based on her hanging up on you I'd def go elsewhere, but I've worked with vendors out of there houses and their services were great!
