i made an appointment with a florist in bayside that works out of her garage -- i showed up and the house was DARK. so i called and she said that since i didn't call to confirm the day before she didn't think i was coming.
1) she never said i had to confirm 2) i would be OK with rescheduling then if she thought i wasn't coming, but....
she HUNG UP ON ME!
the only reason i called her in the first place is b/c she did my friend's wedding in 04/02.

Re: Should you trust a vendor that works from home?
I wouldn't trust ANYBODY who treated me like that! Regardless of where they worked out of.
I actually had a bad experience working with someone out of her home. My florist that I originally hired works out of her home.
She just wasn't able to handle the amount of flowers I wanted, or the creativity I was hoping for. And, we had to totally work around her kids' schedules, etc. It sucked.
So, we hired Flower Michele two weeks b/f the wedding and they did a wonderful job. Loved John. The original florist was nice enough to give us all of our money back though.

WOW! How freaking rude is that? I would have called her back, given her a pice of my mind and told her I was reporting her to the BBB and hung up on HER!
I agree with the girls that you shouldn't rule out a vendor because they work from home, but you have to be careful that they are a registered business otherwise you can easily get screwed (can I say that on here, sorry).

thanks everyone for your point of view. i didn't even get the chance to see how her 'business' is set up in her garage -- she could be very talented. my friend's flowers looked lovely.... anyway, i've called some shops today that said i could make an appointment to come in.

I don't think working from her home makes her a bad vendor (she still lives there verses closing shop and no where to find the person), it's the attitude she gave you after the 'misunderstanding' that would turn me away completely.

hmmmm, sounds a bit shady to me. not the house thing so much as her manner of doing business. If she wanted your business she would have been a bit nicer to you...JMHO

If someone hung up on me than I would not waste my time.

Forgot to mention that the floris I mentioned in Huntington makes HOUSE CALLS, or will meet you at Starbucks, the mall, whatever works for you. Now how's that for convenient!!!
