I havent been to any of the LI showcases/bridal shows/expos and there seem to be a plethora of them this week. I may hit the Marriott on Monday and the Chateau Briand on Tuesday. What do you typically see at these gatherings. do I need to make reservations?

the one at the Marriott, you don't have to register prior...Once you go there they will make you fill out a 'registration form' You will get to see tons of vendors & get tons of free stuff!
With the one at Chateau Briand, you might have to make a reservation...Usually ones at the particular halls require some type of call ahead...Best bet is to call & ask if they are required...

I might go on Monday too.
You'll see a lot of booths for vendors. it depends on the show, but often each vendor will have its own contest, and the drawings for big prizes will be amde during the fashion show or DJ showcase, whichever they have. I've been to 2 showss at the marriot, but I've never been to this particular show that they're doing monday. They tell you to reserve in advance, but I don't think it's necessary, as kissy said for the big ones, but for the halls it may be, since they are much smaller in sclae.
