My mother is planning my shower and hasn't done this or even gone to a shower in probably 20 years. She's asking me for any pointers like theme, games, decorations, and any extras that she should be doing. All she knows is she wants the wishing well, lol. The last shower I was at didn't have one of those, but the extras that we did were a wine basket (for all the couples' firsts) and a lingerie line. We also played Bridal Bingo, guess the bride's age (each table had a picture of her) and dressing up a girl as a bride with toilet paper.
Can you tell me anything else you've seen or done, and any must haves or not necessaries. I want to give her some pointers. (My bridesmaids are no help to her with this she said.)
Thanks!!

Re: Shower
For my shower they did a lot of research on pinterest. They did a wine theme. We did bridal bingo and guess the wine corks. They decorated with photos, chocolate lollipops, an umbrella, guest book and escort cards. For favors they bought stemless wine glasses. They also did the wine basket.
I would be careful about suggesting the wishing well. It isn't easy to rent one and they look old or they are not worth the expensive. If your mom is creative she can make one or just use a laundry basket.

Your shower can be whatever you want it to be in terms of theme or decor and I personally think you do need some games to break up the time and they are great icebreakers for guests who don't know one another (but keep in mind opening presents takes more time than you'd think so leave time for that).
Two popular games that I did for my cousin's shower (I was the MOH) was the toilet paper wedding dress and the bubble gum game. For the toilet paper one, guests choose someone to be the 'bride' from their table and use toilet paper to design her a 'wedding dress'. The actual bride would then choose the best 'dress' and they win a prize (maybe a candle or bottle of wine). The bubble gum game is also cute- the MOH or maybe your mom would come up with a list of questions for the groom prior to the shower (What was your first pet's name, What is your favorite hobby, etc.) and ask the Bride these same questions at the shower. The catch is every wrong answer she gets a piece of bubble gum. Every time I've seen this done, the bride ends up with a huge wad of bubble gum. I gave the guests a printout of the questions to follow along but its very cute.
There are a bunch of other ideas online if you google them but hope this helps!

Re: Shower
Also, wanted to add pocketbook game and word scramble. Since they did a wine theme, they listed a bunch of wines and you needed to decide which was red or white.

And I agree- the wishing well is cute but i woudnt spend a lot of money on it (unless its something important to your mom). The laundry basket is a great idea for DIY! In my experience people dont always bring wishing well items even if it says it on the invites. I've actually never seen a full wishing well at any bridal or baby shower.

Thank you!! I agree with the wishing well thing, but she's old fashioned so she's obsessing over it.

For the bridal shower I threw for my best friend I had done a tea party theme. The bride really didn't want a shower but her mom did so it was a very happy medium for the two. As a favor for it everyone got a tea cup and sauce, with a tea infuser and two small little pouches of tea.
We also didn't do a wishing well but we did a words of wisdom tree where everyone could write a message to the bride and groom on how to make a marriage last.

pocketbook game & bridal bingo are the 2 i've seen most.
definitely try to make a wishing well out of a laundry basket and brooms-- much more useful!!

I've seen where you can have the guests bring a copy of their favorite family recipe and it will be made into a book for you or where you ask each person to bring their favorite cleaning product and a little note as to how it's used/why they can't live without it. I also remember something along the lines of this ~ a laundry basket filled with various cleaning items and there's an adorable/funny poem that goes along with it (UGH I can't remember but it basically had something to do with the name of each item was written into the poem in a very funny way).

Just found this ~ I don't think it's the same exact one I saw done at a shower, but I'm sure you can google plenty of them!
Household Poem #1It is only fair that we let 'her name' in on a little SECRET. ' (his name)' may be FANTASTIC but wait until she finds out that he is not MR. CLEAN. He'll expect her to be a DYNAMO in the kitchen and he thinks all women should MOP & GLOW. At night he'll wake you up at DAWN to SNUGGLE up close. We all AGREE that 'her name and his name' will have a very happy LIFE together. Our wish for you is that your home be filled with JOY and you remain as happy as ever in the FUTURE.orHousehold Poem #2Dear (her name), You are entering a new ERA. There will come a THYME in your marriage when you find (his name) is not always MR. CLEAN, but don't send out the S.O.S. because he might VANISH. (his name) will always bring you CHEER and you will find JOY, so remember your PLEDGE and give him your ALL. To (her name and his name) the Best of Luck & Good Fortune in the years to come. And may (his name) always be your HONEY...my mom didnt know what agree or future were so she sort of combined the two of these and ditched the products she didnt know. GL!
If they dont load let me know. I am on my computer at work

Game: What's in the bride's bag...people get points for every item they have that's also in the bride's bag.
My girls did a wine poem & gave a different bottle of wine for every holiday/occasion. I've also seen this done with candles but personally, prefer wine lol
