hey girls! question- is it necessary to have an alcoholic beverage included at a bridal shower? the shower is in july and from 12:30-4. My mom and I were thinking of doing sangria bunch bowls but the restaurant charges a lot extra per person and tax and plus we have some ppl that may get a little too nuts. what do u think? i've never been to any showers so I don't know.

I don't think its necessarry, but its nice. At my sisters shower we did a beach theme, so we had pina coloadas and strawberry daiquiris. We also had wine at the tables. My mom just ran a bar tab instead of paying the pp price to add an alcohol package since a lot of people didn't want to drink in the middle of the day.

I agree that you don't have to have it, but it is a nice touch.. An open bar isn't necessary IMO, but I like when there is some kind of punch and red/white wine availble. I don't ever get drunk at bridal showers, but sometimes its nice to have a drink or 2. For mine we are doing a champagne punch, mimosas and wines.. Didn't think we would need much more.
I don't think you have to worry about people getting out of hand.. Especially since punch cups are usually tiny.. That would be a whole lot of trips to the punch table to get drunk enough to notice lol!

Well the shower def won't be boring for you. However I think I will need some booze at mine. All that family will be overwhelming.

Thanks girls for all your opinions. I guess we should have something...i just feel bad since my mom is paying another couple thousand for this!
i think we are just going to do 2 sangria punch bowls...or possibly open up a bar tab instead of paying pp. thanks for that suggestion!

Re: shower-alcohol
Some offering of alcohol is necessary, open or cash bar it doesn't matter.
Ask the place your having it at if you can bring your own bottles of champagne for mimosas or your own punch. The Champagnes you can get at COSTCO, and get a few $7 bottles or sangria can be made with cheap wine and brought to the hall in a large liquid cooler- I can give you a great sangria recipe!
that will save you tons of money and still offer people drinks.
