Shower Drama---Long

Shower Drama---Long

There has been a lot of drama behind the scenes with my shower. My FILs are planning it and we switched the date so that FSIL can attend. She is in Americorp and she is planning a 2 week roadtrip before coming back. First, FSIL said she didnt want to come back because she was afraid of 'stealing' the thunder from me. Now she is saying that she thinks it'll be too 'stressful' to come back because she has a bday party the day before. And she keeps referring to the shower as 'that party'

I know she is probably saying even worse things since FH has been filtering everything bc he doesnt want me to hate her. She is a bridesmaid and honestly, hearing all of this does make me hate her. I don't even want to give her a bridesmaid gift. She has not talk to me about the wedding, not helped and her parents paid for her dress.

She is not a child either. She is 24 and when I was 24 I was definitely a lot less spoiled.

Am I being petty for not giving her a gift? She's family which means I can't kick her to the curb after the wedding. Lol

What I did for my bridesmaids that went rouge, I just bought them less gifts. I am secretly paying for one girls makeup. took my moh on a trip and will be buying a little something extra for the girls who put the most effort in. Just something to think about.

I think you answered your own question here, she's family so you kind of just have to go with it.

I can relate, I've been dealing with a lot of family drama issues as well, but the way I'm trying to look at it is weddings make people a little crazy (even when it's not theirs). After the wedding this stuff isn't going to really matter, but she will be your SIL and you'll have to see her at family functions so its better to keep the peace. She can complain and whine and maybe not show up to the shower but you will come out on top if you smile and act understanding (even though your really pissed and think she's acting like a b). If you don't get her a gift you will be on the same level as she is.

Being the bigger person can really suck sometimes.

this! and totally don't pay her ANY mind during 'that party' or your wedding! at least the wedding will be the one day in your life that you can ignore her and have a great excuse!

I agree with this method. I didn't have anyone as bad as your FSIL sounds but I did have one BM go way above and beyond and I plan on buying her and my 2 MOH's something extra then I get all the other girls.

I agree. Don't allow her to make her problem, whatever it is, your problem. Smile, be gracious, and for a gift get her a $7 necklace at TJ Maxx.

Thanks for the feedback and support. I got all my ladies DOJ so I'm definitely giving her that. What peeves me off about the situation is that no one expected me to make her bridesmaid because we are not close. I wanted to do it because I wanted to get closer to her and be a family. And this is how she acts....? I just can't believe it. FH said this is how she is and I shouldn't take it personally. But how can I not!
