I'm having a Sunday brunch wedding shower and I was at Forever21 yesterday and fell in love with this dress (crazy inexpensive). As you can see it is black. Is it OK to wear black to your own wedding shower or is it considered too formal?
No, I don't think it's too 'formal.' My concern would be that it isn't 'fun' - so if you want to wear it (and it's cute!), funk it up a little with some bright accessories - a pink glass bead necklace and chunky bracelet, for example.

The dress is very cute but I agree with previous poster-'funk it up' a little with cute accessories because its a happy day and it is a brunch. I like bright colors but then I lean towards them anyway-the dress I plan to wear to my shower is a bright orange pattern!

Nude can be worn again but maybe go for something with a little pizazz like a textured nudde pump; i have ones that are a pale pink-nude color but they are 'snakeskin' and they really have a special feel to them.
