When someone gives you cash or a check at a shower, and your opening gifts in front of everyone. Do you say thank you for the check, or money, or do you just say gift.
I was at a shower the moh kept telling the bride to say 'thank you for the money'. I don't know I think that might be tacky.
Any suggestions

I said thank you for the gift. I personally think saying 'thank you for the money' is a bit tacky.
I was at a bridal shower where the MOH (her cousin) or w/e said 'OMG THANK YOU FOR THE $100' from one of my co -workers. We all looked at each other like 'ehhhh' lol
I think just saying gift is fine.

Re: shower ettiquite?
All i said was 'thank you for your generous gift' i didnt say thank you for the money lol
and when i was a bm at my friends shower, we were opening the gifts and handing them to her, one was an envelope with a check so i handed it to her and quickly whispered to her, you can just say 'thank you for your very generous gift' and she said thank you bc i was wondering what to say lol

Re: shower ettiquite?
all the showers i been to people don't open monetary gifts in front of everyone. maybe its just my family but when someone is only giving money they hand you the card & tell you to open it at home.

I agree, but then when your calling out other peoples names and asying 'thank you aunt ida' or w/e then you wont open their gift, or call out their name for a thank you? I just opened the card, and read it quickly, so that they knew I just didn't throw it to the side and looked for them and thanked them :)

yeah i had to personally thank them too bc i know along with our other guests they want to receive a personal thank you in front of everybody. Also, i was thinking that if i don't, other guests won't know they gave me a monetary gift and then others might look at them like 'you didn't give a gift' and i think that the person who gave the monetary gift will feel others are thinking that so i had to at least thank them in front of everyone.

yes, this way everyone doesn't know what they gave you, but they know that you received some sort of gift from them. You don't have to sit there and wave it around in everyones face hah

PERSONALLY, I WOULD JUST SAY THANK YOU SO MUCH & END IT AT THAT! NO NEED TO SPECIFY WHAT IT WAS. SHE KNOWS WHAT SHE GAVE YOU.

That is how I handle it I usually look right at the person and say thank you so much and that is all.
