I am under the belief that all the women that are being invited to the wedding should be invited. If they aren't local or you don't think they will come, you can eliminate them. If the list is still too big, then I would eliminate the women I do not know so well, like FH's friend's wife, etc.

i hear its supposed to be only the woman invited to the wedding that the bride is close with...

I had it a little easy because we're having a couple's shower. I invited everyone. Just go through the list one at a time.
