shower idea

Just thought Id post this idea... Have guest fill out the envelopes for thank you cards at shower for a 'raffle' with their name and address. Sometime during the shower someone will pull an envelope and give a prize (or a few prizes) to that person(s) (ie and ice cream scooper or some kitchen gadget) and then the bride does not have to do the time consuming act of addressing the envelopes right before the wedding when there is so much other things to be done. If the shower will be a surprise - tell your moh about this and have her organize it. Hope this helps...

shower idea

Please don`t kill me for this warning. I am just trying to prevent some of you from possible negative feedback you may hear if you have a raffle. Although this idea does not bother me too much, I must warn you that I have seen some people get very angry over this. They feel they are being tricked into writing out their own envelope. In addition, they also say the bride should at least be able to write out envelopes after all the time and money that goes into giving the bride a shower present. There were some `older` family members discussing this at my cousins shower. (My cousin did not have a raffle). They are now aware of the practice and do not enter into the `raffle`. There is also a site I found through this board, http://www.etiquettehell.com/wedindex.htm, and it has this as a faux pas.

shower idea - worked for me

This was done at my shower and it was very well received an envelope from each table was picked and a gift was given to each person. The guest thought it was cute and I loved the extra help. I wrote each person a personal note in their invite so the time saved on addressing them was used to write an extra special thank you.

shower idea - worked for me

Here's a different way - inside my wishing well I found a stack of thank yous all pre-addressed with my return address already on and stamped. My mom did it for me. It was the biggest and greatest help...so many people said it was such a nice thing. This way people are not addressing their own envelopes. Maybe the MOH or bms could do something similar and give it as part of the gift to the bride...then its not a big a 'faux pas'!

shower idea - worked for me

One of my friends threw a shower for a couple of her friends (bridal & Baby). She used clear avery labels for the invitations and printed an extra set for the bride or mother to be to use for the thank yous. Your mom addressing and stamping thank yos was a very nice/thoughtful gift.
