Shower Invite Wording - 'fiance of....'?

Hi everyone! I was hoping you girls could help me navigate a bridal shower wording issue - my latest dilema is that the grooms side would like for me to word the shower invite in such a way that his side will know who it is for since they never met the bride and apparently don't even know her name. The suggestion to me was ...' a shower in honor of MARY JANE, fiance of JOE SMITH'. My question to everyone is - is this offensive, degrading to the bride? I think it is and I told the person that suggested this to me as much. It sounds like I am referring to the bride as property of the groom.... but now I am wondering - am I overreacting?

I would prefer to word it something like .... 'In honor of the upcoming nuptials of Mary Jane and Joe Smith, you are invited to a bridal shower for Mary' or ...... 'Please help Mary Jane prepare for her nuptials to Joe Smith - join us for a bridal shower!.....'

Ughgh - is this normal? Has anyone else had to do this? Any suggestions on how to word it so it doesn't sound so ... i dunno... weird?

I agree with you, I don't really care for their suggestion, I don't know if it's offensive, but it just doesn't sound right, I mean the invites are going to people the bride knows too, so then it sounds really weird.

Your ideas sound better and convey the same point.

my sister had 'Fiancee of xx' on my invite and it did look nice; and I know his side of the family really thought it was a touching point, to include his name on the invite.

I included my friend's finace's name on her shower invite, I don't thinki it is degrading to the bride, IMHO!

If they dont know the brides name, They need to LEARN it. That doesnt sound right to write that!!! They will have to figure out who she is!!!!!!

Re: Shower Invite Wording - 'fiance of....'?

Just to let you know on the spelling:

Girl: fiancee
Guy: fiance

I think it is sad that they don't know her name. If you are going to be invited to any event I would think you need to know who you are honoring.

I like that version that you wrote:

I would prefer to word it something like .... 'In honor of the upcoming nuptials of Mary Jane and Joe Smith, you are invited to a bridal shower for Mary' or ......

I don't really care for the first suggested version but I think it is acceptable. I think it really emphasis that people don't know who she is.

I agree with you. i don't like the way it is worded with fiance of.... the other way sounds nicer.

I agree that his name should be included, but there has to be a way to word it that sounds more elegant than just fiance of xyz

My sister's shower invitation was worded that way, I thought it was fine.
