I guess being Portuguese I have never ever been to a shower that wasn't a surprise for the bride. Like big time surprise. I read about brides planning what they will wear and guest list and stuff...are showers not surprises any more? Brides plan their own? I'm really surprised by this.

Re: Shower not a surprise?
I've been to quite a few showers in the past couple of years and I'd say it's about 50/50. I don't think mine will be a surprise. My mom already said she wouldn't be able to surprise me without me getting mad. When i go to brunch/lunch on the weekend I usually don't get dressed up or put on makeup lol.

Re: Shower not a surprise?
im going to have two showers (one in NY and one in CT) i doubt tht either will be a surprise bc i have to plan my days off so specificly that it would be hard to surprise me. (plus gettin gmy mom in from out of town is too hard)

Re: Shower not a surprise?
I don't think I'll have a surprise either because my mom is also out of town in the few months before the wedding so I may even have an early shower. I don't know... I'm going to tell her if there is a shower, I want to know when, but one of my BMs suggested that maybe I don't know where/what it will be, just when it is.

Re: Shower not a surprise?
I think it's a personal decision! I knew Brides who wanted to know when so they would look nice that day. My SIL (hah LOVE that I can take the 'F' off the front of that!) was sooo snoopy bc she was anxious for it. For me though, I want to know NOTHING about it! I'm not going to check my registry or snoop. I'd love to be surprised and I think it would be great to roll up to it in sweats (I'm def not that bride who will do my hair and make up every weekend 'just in case')

Same with me. If I didn't know about my shower, I'd probably show up in like jeans, a wifebeater and Chuck taylors, lol. I need to know when mine is so that I can dress properly, lol.

hahah I just said the same-- except i DON'T want to be dressed up. One bridal party I was in, her mom brought her a dress, shoes, make up etc bc she knew the bride would freak out that she wasn't dressed up.

Re: Shower not a surprise?
Yeah my cousins have always been psyched out by going to a birthday party or another persons shower or e-party so they have always been dressed up. But I guess a lot of people know and I thought it was weird but I guess now and days it's not. I don't want to know. For my baby shower I was so shocked I didn't even know what to do so I started walking backwards while crying. Now when I look back it was hilarious. I walked in thinking it was my moms friends shower...she really, really got me good my mom. I kept asking my cousin Cindy 'Cindy...whya re you here? Why? How do you know them?' LMAO

Re: Shower not a surprise?
Mine is probably going to be a surprise. My mom likes to keep everything traditional. I am def going to be that bride that will be doing my hair and makeup every weekend for fear that i will look like a monster the day of the shower. I will have a dress picked for the event and I will ask them to bring it for me.

Re: Shower not a surprise?
I'm hoping mine won't be a surprise, only because I hate surprises lol...my baby shower wasn't a surprise either, I greeted my guests at the door. But I also don't like having shower games or any of that, so I might just be wierd.
My good friend just had her bridal shower yesterday, and she was surprised. Her mom had a dress waiting for her. She said she had been wearing her favorite shoes everywhere she went for the last month in case she ended up at her shower.

Re: Shower not a surprise?
I've always been raised that it was surprise, but unfortunately we can't do that. I live 7 hours away from LI and need a little bit of notice before I come down there. Also - being that I'll need to take all of my shower gifts home, I'll need to drive down with an EMPTY car (this never happens - I'm always lugging things back and forth.)

Re: Shower not a surprise?
I've seen quite a few showers where the bride was very active in planning. I always thought they were supposed to be a surprise also! I'm pretty sure mine will be a surprise (hopefully!), but I told my mom and sis (maid of honor) to make sure whatever lie they tell me to get me to the place involves me needing to get dressed up!

Re: Shower not a surprise?
I feel like I will be able to figure out when my shower is. As much as they might try to keep it a surprise, I'll be surprised if I am surprised!
