ok so as it is that my mom and MOH live in another country, my mom was saying that eventho she is going to talk to my aunt about her throwing me a shower, I should really think about organizing it for myself. at 1st I thought it is the dumbest idea ever, but my mom said that this way it's gonna be exactly how/where/when I want it. she might have a point there! but, I don't know if this is even acceptable. what do u guys think? do people gonna think this is a fun idea and a fun party, or they gonna think this is weird and as if I am asking for attention and presents?
I want something fun and very very simple. I want a BBQ at my FMIL's house with just family and maybe a few friends.
please let me know ur honestest opinions
TIA

Re: Shower Question
I think that since your family is not here to help you, that its fine to be the one that is organizing your shower

Re: Shower Question
im planning my own shower, only cuz im a control freak and im not the type of person that would expect her bp to shell out all this money. my mom is 'throwing' me the shower, but the lady is clueless(not her fault) so im basically planning it.
PLAN YOUR SHOWER but include ur aunt.

Re: Shower Question
I think its totally fine....at least your mom was honest with you that she doesn't think she can plan something from another country (understandable) so this way you can get everything you wanted....I'm sure she just wants u to have the shower of your dreams

Re: Shower Question
i think thats perfectly fine, personally id rather be somewhat surprised but its harder to have someone else plan it when youre direct family lives in another country.... but i know plenty of girls who have helped plan their own shower

There are extenuating circumstances that trump any etiquette rule...It's 2009, throw yourself a shower

Re: Shower Question
you can organize your shower, involve your aunt too if you;d like. no one has to even know that you were the one who planned it. its not like at the shower people are gonna ask you 'hey who did all this'. go for it
