This is a spin-off of the other shower thread. My mom/BP is throwing me my shower...I don't know any of the details. I only gave them a list of the people I wanted to invite...it included FMIL, FSIL (even though she lives in Germany and won't come and I hate her guts) and both of FH's grandmas (neither of whom will come because they live in Ohio).
Are we supposed to ask FMIL who she wants invited to the shower?? None of the people she invited live closer to NY than Ohio and I've NEVER met ANY of them beyond his sister and grandmas. There's no way these people are going to travel halfway across the country (or farther) for my shower and I think it'd be rude to send them an invitation...to me it would look like trolling for a gift from someone I don't even know.
Thoughts??

Re: Shower question
i did. i sent her their part of the wedding guest list and asked which of those women should be invited to the shower.
if alot of her family is out of town though you probably don't need to worry about it.

Re: Shower question
Yes your FMIL should be able to invite people. It's up to her if she wants to invite OOT guests or not.
ETA: I gave my mom my master wedding guest list and took a few people off. Then my mom took off some more people, and gave the list to FMIL to cut her side down as well.

Re: Shower question
I didn't ask FMIL who I should or should not invite from her family. I just chose who I know and wanted to invite. My mom is paying for my shower and I'm not going to have her pay for all the women in FH's family, there's just too much. And if I let FMIL make a list; she would invite EVERYONE.

Re: Shower question
I did. I doubt much of my FH's family will come either bc they live out of state. However I do want them invited to give them the option.

Re: Shower question
I'd just ask her what she thinks is appropriate. She knows them better than you, so she'll know if there'd be hurt feelings if certain people were not invited.

Re: Shower question
Well, I am sending invites to my fam that live in C.O., Japan , and the Caribbean eventhough I know that they will not be there. They wanted an invite because they wanted to send a gift. In your case, I would would still ask her if she has anyone that she wants to invite and let her be the judge if it's a good idea or not because they are her ppl and she would know better than you would.

Re: Shower question
Yes you should ask her! You can sent an invite, even if you know they can not come. FH had relatives who could not come but they sent gifts anyway

Re: Shower question
i just shared the list with my FH
FMIL's family (females) are invited. since she recently got laid off, NO COWORKERS are invited, so her 'friends' list dropped substantially
...and after seeing FSIL's wedding video, i dont care (FMIL's ex boss wore WHITE to FSIL's wedding!!!)

Re: Shower question
I would definitely ask her and give her the option to tell you not to invite people. IMO not asking her only gives her ammunition to say you did something wrong. It sounds to me like you don't need any more drama from this woman.

Re: Shower question
I would - I asked my FMIL and she just gave us a few people and then I sent the final list to my sis.
