I would start working on them as soon as you get the chance.

I had my shower Sunday and I mailed them this morning, however, I am insane - so - I think a month's time is appropriate.

I sent mine out the week after my shower. I personally just wanted to get them over with and done with.

Re: shower thank you etiquette?
My friends and I are still waiting for ours from a shower we attended in October. And we gave good gifts bec. her MIL is one of our very close friends. Mine was a full set of her registered stemware, so you don't think I'm talking about a dish towel or something. Even though, that too should be appreciated and acknowleged.
Let's see when the wedding TY's arrive. That was early December!!
I can't tell you what etiquette dictates, but I would say 3-4 weeks at the most, while the groom's side still remembers your unmarried name.
If you care enough to be asking, you will no doubt do the right thing.
I would say one month TOPS!! I wrote mine out the next day...but Im pretty anal about that stuff

Re: shower thank you etiquette?
It took me one month and ten days. I know this because I also have a mother who was hounding me about this. This may sound like a long time but I had 85 to write and I wanted to make them as personal as possible. One of FH's aunts refused to respond to our wedding until she got hers. I wish she said no.
