Did anyone who got married already shut down their registry before they got married? Or has anyone ever heard of this, so that people wouldn't buy you things for it for a wedding gift?? Thoughts??

dont shut it down. im not sure where your registered but i know with BBB you can buy things off your registry at a discount for like a year after your wedding date (and they always accept coupons so you can save even more that way) plus they have a night every few months for past brides where they can buy their registry items at an insane discount.

I'm going to 'shut it down' by changing it to 'fake names' for the time leading up to the wedding, and then back to our names after its all over so we can still get the discounts etc. At BBB and Macy's you can change the names right online, so its super easy!

I personally would not shut it down. I know we all want money as gifts, but the people who would plan to give you a gift will most likely still give you a gift (or maybe nothing at all!), only they will buy you some crap you don't want!

I'm not.
For my eparty I didn't register because we wanted $$ but people picked stuff out for us. If they were going to buy a gift I would have rather been able to just pick it myself. If they are going to give a gift, not having a registry isn't going to stop them.

We have added a few things to our registry for the wedding....like rugs, a dining set, etc in case people want to do gifts....at least it is something we need

I am not shutting it down, I have asked my mom and moh to stop 'promoting' it though.

Re: Shutting down the registry?
You can just take it offline or unpublish it rather than taking it down.
I don't plan to do this. I still have a lot of stuff left on the registry. FH has a lot of OOT relatives who I think do wedding gifts rather than cash. We also have a lot of OOT relatives who are NOT coming (and VERY few gifts so far) so I am hoping maybe they will send something off the registry.
