Sick and Tired of Getting Ripped OFF!

I'm seriously so sick and tired of getting ripped off the minute you mention the word 'wedding.' I keep getting photography quotes for over $2,000, and that's almost five times the price of my dress, limos, and flowers combined! Does anyone have a recommendations for a photographer charging $1,500 or less?

I realize wedding prices are expensive but, $2000 isn't expensive. Most of the photographers such as 12 night are really proffs only. I you want a whole package its going to be $2000 or more.

Its okay to be on a budget on most wedding things, but I think photography isn't one of them.
Why not try commack wedding center or something like that. I don't think the quality will be all that good but, its probably cheap.

Just wanted to say THANK YOU to all the ladies that recm'd SilverFox and Twelfth Night! I met with both yesterday, and they both offerred packages for under 1,500! Now, I just have to decide which one to go with.

i have to agree that most photographers overcharge, but sadly they can get away with it because they know people will pay. yes they may use expensive equipment (a couple thousand dollars for a camera) but it still doesnt justify charging 4,500 just to shoot your wedding, and nothing else!

One one hand yes, it is crazy how much the vendors cost...its not only the photographers but Djs also. On the other hand, I think the photographer is the most important vendor (pictures do last a lifetime). We got a photographer that is a 'wedding photographer' but she knows what to look for and takes gorgeous pictures...because of that I was willing to pay a little more to have quality pictures in the end.
That's awesome that you're only spending $600 for your flowers and $300 for your dress! I'm expecting to pay a lot more than that (and we're on a budget too)!

Although I don't think $2000 is getting ripped off, especially if you get a package, I do think that you can find quality photographers out there who will work with you for less. I worked my a$$ off looking on Craigs list, but I found someone who had worked in San Francisco and was just breaking into the NY wedding field, and only charged us $1100 for 2 photographers, ALL DAY. I got all 900 proofs and they're BEAUTIFUL. When we got our pics, we saw that they had raised their prices to $2800 a day. We didn't get any albums, but I got the negatives and I'm putting it together now. So it is possible to get high quality work for less money, you just have to be careful.

Have you checked the pennysaver? i saw 2 for approx 600 dollars. the amount i am paying makes me sick....but this is something I know i will have forever.

try craigslist.com a lot of photographers are willing to take very little cos they wanna build their portfolio.

I'm using Queens Bridal center. They are pretty reasonable in price and their packages.

This was a pretty old post. Since then, I have booked my photographer, and for $1,350! So, I'm really happy! Thanks for the feedback.

I'd be careful. You get what you pay for, especially with some of the lower priced vendors even mentioned on this thread. You don't have to spend a fortune, but sometimes going too cheap cna be a BIG mistake

That's for the precaution. I have to disagred (not w/you) but w/the general concensus that if you pay less you get less. There are many vendors out there that will workwith your budget and do incredible work. There are also vendors out there that you pay top money for and do terrible work. The best thing to do is: set a budget, stick to it, find a vendor that will work for it, and DO YOUR RESEARCH!

The photographer that I booked (Marianela Vera) has one of the greatest reputations and reccomendations from a lot of photographer that I looked at in my budget range.

Take Silverfox, Duet, Queens Bridal - all do phenomenal work and for a price range in the 1-2K range....
