Signing a RH contact... Advice welcomed!

Signing a RH contact... Advice welcomed!

Hi everyone! I am somewhat new to LIW but have found it an invaluable resource already. My FH and I are native Long Islanders currently living out of state. We are planning on getting married on LI and our parents have narrowed down RH choices to 3-4 which we will be seeing next week when we come home for the holiday. I would love any advice you have regarding signing a contract with an RH (questions to ask, things to look out for, etc.) I want to make sure we don't get stuck paying for things we were not aware of.

Thank you so much!!!

I would just say make sure you read the whole thing. Different places do things differently so make sure you understand how much it will end up costing: tax, grat, etc.
Also, if they throw in any extras make sure it is written in the contract.
Im also an OOT bride so I know how hectic it can be. Dont sign anything until you are 100% satisfied.

Get everything in writing.
Negotiate!
Remember to ask about things like valet parking, payment schedules.

Don't pick a place if your iffy on it. If you dont like the places your parents pick go to other places. Alot of places will give you a tour if you walk in.

Ask about food tastings, how many weddings are there at the same time.

I would ask about their different pricing options, the number of events being held during your date, if they have 2 events ask about how they do the timing so both parties wont clash. The guest to staff ratio per table, etc...they're so many things you can ask but you wont remember all of them. Just remember to look for a place that's willing to answer your questions even if it doesn't make sense sometimes. You definitely would want a place with people who will be there to answer your questions and help you plan your day. Of course negotiate, try to get your money's worth definitely. Good Luck!

Definitely negotiate and ask every question you are thinking, no matter how dumb it may seem.

also get everything in writing because the person you are booking with may not necessarily be the person you deal with on your wedding day and you don't want anything the person said to be forgotten or ignored if they promised you something.

make sure you get all the 'Extras' they promised in writing, make sure you know what the payment schedule is, and negotiate one (or two) last times!

Long Island venues tend to throw alot in for your money as they have lots of competition. Let them compete. Take pictures of everything while you visit, even the bathrooms. These will be helpful when you are out of town and trying to remember if there is a table for a basket etc.. Ask if they are planning any changes or upgrades to the venue. There are plenty of wonderful check lists to use, I suggest you make copies to bring to each venue. If you have time, get on line and check out any complaints they have had and ask about them. Decide before you visit what is important to you in a venue. Ask other brides on this site who have already had their wedding at venue to give you advice.

Let them know you are looking at other venues. Always ask before you sign: Can we do any better on the price?

Good Luck!
